    Satellite Question

I currently have on the side of the house a Sky Digital dish left by the previous owner and no receiver. Questions :

    1. Could it be of any use with a receiver ?
    2. Could I get any French channels?
    3. What do I need to look for in a receiver
    4. How much would it cost?

    Cheers

Well for no subscription charges you can get something called Free sat, you'll need any digital satalite box - they go on eBay alot, probably the cheapest place.

You might be able to get French channels, there is a site with all the locations of the geostat sats so you could reposition the dish, but then you would be unable to get the british channels. That said you might need some kind of french card for your box (I know nothing about French sat).

If it's just a normal Sky dish then I don't think you can receive French channels. I could be wrong but AFAIK the Sky dish is cheap sh!te designed to only pick up a signal from Sky's satellite. I think the big Euro satellite is Eurobird but you need to realign the dish and probably get a better one as well.

The good news is that there's no reason why you can't get freesat. My understanding is that you a freesat card though and the last time I looked it was a right arse trying to get one.

Uhmmm..... I couldn't honestly say. I think it's about the same except that with freesat you get loads of sh!tty home shopping channels. If you had the choice I would go for Freeview because it leaves out all the crap shopping and gambling channels.
