Do *not* buy Apples in ear earphones

Waiting to get my replacement Shure E2cs back from Shure...in the meanwhile a m8 borrowed me some of those in ear buds from Apple... (he doesnt use em)...and I can see why!
My god these things suck big time...sadly I dont have any other earphones at the mo so have to use this piece of ^&*%... for in ear buds there is practically ZERO noise isolation, plus its impossible *for me* to get a good seal with them..tried all 3 sizes..I get a pretty good seal with my Shures...plus the sound is awful with the Apple buds...even poking them as far as they can go in, it just results in increased bass, with very little mid to high range...
    Praying the Shures arrive soon!

This is why I have some Black Sony MDR-EX71s to replace my iPod earphones

I remember about 3 years ago there was a message put out by the Greater Manchester Police, warning people about wearing iPod earphones on the met around manchester, as thieves were targeting people with white earphones specifically.

It always worries me slightly seeing people wearing the white ones, both in that they don't realise it makes them a target, and because the sound quality of the earphones that ship with iPod are shocking..decent in-ear headphones are only 30quid - when you have spent 200+ pounds on a music player, whats 30quid to get decent sound out of it?

The general public has proved that they don't care about sound quality in three ways.

    1) They use bundled earphone. this has always been a no-no
    2) They buy horrible compressed and crippled music
    3) They buy iPods. Not renouned for their sonic qualities

Correct apart from your last point, iPods (from 4G onwards) have decent sound quality, a decent range at last which is more than good enough for anything encoded

Lossless ofcourse is different, but thats not what portable players are designed for

You may be right about 4G iPods, i don't pay that much attension to them to be honest. They have no appeal to me

I was not at all impressed with the E2c. I sold them on quickly, preferring my old (8 years?) Sony buds. Maybe it's just me, many seem to like them. It's not like I don't know good sound when I hear it though, my AKG K 701s are growing on me with every listen

Yeah you do need proof of purchase. I bought mine online, so just printed off the online transaction.
As for location, it shouldnt matter where you purchase em from, as Shure Dist Uk should be in charge of replacements...
However you can give Shure a ring on 020 8808 2222, and they would be able to confirm this.

tbh I've got the Apple in-ears and I find them reasonably good - I got them to replace some Sennheisers that were to0 big to be practical. Obviously that was a downgrade in quality, but for the price they're not bad.

Of course I would rather have some nice Shure noise-cancellers, but they're somewhat more expensive....

I tend to rip most of my music off whatever available media @ 192Kbps or 320Kbps (overkill, or is it?) if I really value the source. The reason for goign 320 is even if I can't tell a difference on my iPod, I sure as hell can on my B&Ws/HT... Oh yea, I'm still sticking to MP3 however I know quite a few of you probably preffer ogg/FLAC.

That said, I haven't used my earphones (non apple, some seinheisser ones) in ages as my 60gig iPod is on car duty piped into my DLS setup, and the same library is on my G5 piped into the HT over digital coax. It's good enough for now

I've just splashed out on a pair of Ultimate Ears super.fi 5 Pro buds.. OMG..

The clarity is just immense, every single instrument can be clearly heard, a nice deep warm bass which never overpowers, just.. WOW..

I did think about the shures, but the reviews for the UE's were better - I'm not disappointed!

Now if only I could find the charger for my Rio Karma..
