    video capture help!

    Hi,

I have a Sony DCR-HC24e and am having trouble transfering videos to my pc. I've just installed a firewire pci card and all seemed to be working. However, the computer recognises the camera and even controls it (play, fast forward etc), but when I go to capture the video in moviemaker, the program says 'unkown error' and can't go any further.

I've also tried Premiere and Nerovision. Both operate the camera but have no luck showing/recording any video.

    Here's my pc specs:

    INTEL® PENTIUM® 4 Prescott® @ 3.0GHZ 800mhz FSB/HTT/1MB

    Memory
    1024 MB DDR400 PC3200 WITH LIFETIME WARRANTY!

    Motherboard
    HIGH END ASUS®: DUAL DDR, S-ATA, 8X AGP, 5 PCI, 800MHZ FSB

    USB Options
    SIX USB 2.0 PORTS

    Hard Drive
    160 GB HARD DISK @ 7200rpm 8mb cache

    CD Writer/Combi Drive
16X DVD ROM WITH 48X CD ROM

    CD/DVD Writer
    4x +R DUAL LYR DVD WRITER (16x +/-R) (& RW) + 40x CD-RW

    Graphics Card
    128MB GEFORCE FX5200 8X AGP + TV-OUT

    Sound
    SoundBlaster Live 7.1 24-bit

    Network Facilities
10/100 NETWORK CARD FOR BROADBAND - AS STANDARD

    OS -
    MICROSOFT® WINDOWS® XP HOME

I should also mention that when I open the camera as a device on windows it displays the video from the camera ( albeit with no sound) so it's not like the video isn't getting to the pc at all.

Any thoughts? Am I doing something very dumb? This is the most likely option I know, but I'm stumped. Does the camera need to be in a certain mode to transfer? My Sony handbook is useless and only mentions connecting via usb.

    Thanks
