    CD Player Speakers with PC

Evening folks, i've just taken my sisters CD player/speakers because its no use to her anymore because the CD player doesnt work (it does, it just seems to be very picky about when it plays, skipping tracks seems to kill it for a bit too! any ideas about this?).

Anyways, the speakers are no doubt better than the junk i'm using atm, so i'd like to use 'em for this machine - I just dont know how!

The speakers have 2 wires coming out of each one, a red and black one (+v and 0v I guess?), and are bare wire at the end , plugging into the spring loaded bits at the back of the CD player, they are the same as most speakers I guess, and I know my mates speakers are the same and he's got his working with his PC, so im sure it can be done - I just dont know how! (He's not around to ask atm, hence the post )

    Cheers,
    David

I'm sure you just run a phono lead to the back of the main unit, and then select AUX in or something.

Running them direct out of the headphone socket probably won't work as you'd need an amp

When you say phono lead, what do you mean?

Just a pair of stereo hi-fi interconnects

They get called patch, RCA, phono, etc. but it's just yer common stereo leads.

From reading your post it seems as if you're just trying to use the speakers rather than the whole system, but that's not a goer. The only way it'll work is if the hi-fi has a spare input as Dave87 said. You then run the aforementioned cables from the stereo outputs on your PC to the input on your hi-fi.

Rather confusingly, although you're using "phono" leads the only thing you to watch is that you don't plug it into a "phono" input on the hi-fi as these as meant for a turntable and are no use for a line-level source.

Ach, you probably have it working by now anyway...

    Yeah, I got it working

Got a cable from Currys that was a 3.5mm jack on one end (PC) and the red/white connectors on the other, that plugged into the back of the CD player (to amp the signal I guess?) and then it drives the speakers.

I don't think they're the best speakers on the planet, but they're so much better than the junk I had before - the lower frequencies are more defined and 'hearable'!

    Cheers for the help
