Recommend me a headset

Afternoon folks,

My current skype headset is on its way out so I am looking to get a new one but it also occurs to me that these days my headset is also my primary audio device so I am considering spending more money and getting maybe a 5.1 or 7.1 (or just a really good quality stereo) headset.

I've not really started looking properly yet but thus far I'm not liking what I see, most are hideous (looked at some medusa ones, Roccat and some speedlink) looking things so can anyone recommend me a nice set? I'm looking to spend around £60 (flexible), no set requirements for features except that the headset is USB.

I use a fairly standard Logitech set with the boom microphone which works well with Skype and general audio stuff. I think they cost around £30 a year or so ago.

Very capable, probably not 'hi-fi' (but good enough for my ears!). The only slight downside is that they start getting a little uncomfortable after a couple of hours continuous wear.

I had one of those and the device manager was not at all happy with the realtek on board sound and the plantronic headset conflicting.

I've been using a logitech Clear chat for a while now, on my second... they generally about 4 years before the cable starts to go and I lose mic or audio. My current one is still working but I am aware that the mic cuts out if the cable is at a particlar angle, I could get another but I fancy something a bit posher

I'll keep an eye out for the new corsair ones I think, maybe hexus will review them? (reviewed the last range I believe?)

No I hadn't, seen lots of individual reviews. Thanks! Some of those are cheaper than the one I was looking at.

Update: I've read a few reviews now and they seem to be leading me in the direction of the Senhieser PC 333Ds, can't really justify £99 on a headset just at the moment as I have a pile of bills to pay first but I think I may treat myself to a pair soon

I think I paid £50ish for my set of goldring 150`s, Brilliant for the price, Though not usb, They are excellent for an all rounder.

The goldrings definatly are brilliant value but you would need a seperate microphone then.

This is true, Though you can buy a Speedlink clip mic for about £5 and there you have a great set of cans for the money and a mic too..

Thanks for the link, I had a pair of Steelseries 5HV2's which were good until they lost sound on one side, it seems it's a common problem. It's a shame as I wanted to try a pair of Steelseries 7H but don't want to take the risk as they apparently suffer from the same design flaw.

Just noticed the corsair ones had come out, I think my girlfriend is getting me a set of Roccat Kaves though. A couple of friends recommended those to me as being very comfortable to wear.

No...after reading reviews I decided there wasn't enough between them and the older versions to justify the large price difference (the older sets are being sold off to make room for the new models).....so I bought the HS1As instead.
