    Logitech z5500 connectivity issues

    Hi,

Firstly I am new to these forums and a bit of a computer noob so bare with me if I sound a little slow!

I have some Logitech z5500 and understand that these can be connected to my desktop through HDMI or other cables to use digital/analogue requiring dolby digital or DTS decoding. I dont have a soundcard but a M5A78L/M-USB3 motherboard and i was wondering whether this supports the dolby digital or DTS required for 5.1 sound.

If so, what is the best approach to connect this system to my computer for the full true 5.1 effect?

Thanks for your help, and sorry if this is a stupidly obvious question/s!

    Re: Logitech z5500 connectivity issues

I know this is a month old but heres a shot. From what I can see the best connection would be an optical one (optical will sound the same if you spen £2 or £200 just the cable will look nicer.

I have no idea if the onboard supports dd or dts but it should still be able to upmix into 5.1 for those awesome speakers you have.

You can either hook up the 3 analogue cables and have your PC decode any 5.1 signals - this will also work with 5.1 support in games

or you can use an optical or coax digital cable if your motherboard has the connector - this will let your speakers decode any dolby audio in videos, but not games

If you wanted to use HDMI then you'd need to get an HDMI splitter that extracts the audio portion of the signal into an optical cable for the speakers
