2.1 speaker recommendations

If you're old enough you may remember Videologic's Sirocco speakers, launched somewhere around 1999? Well I've been using these speakers ever since I bought them all those years ago. They've served me well but sadly are feeling their age and the rubber in the satellites are breaking up badly. I'm sure it's affecting the sound quality and as they don't owe me anything I think it's time for a new set.

I'd be grateful if someone could recommend something decent for less than £150. I'd like something 2.1 with small satellites. Research I've done so far steers me towards:

Logitech Z623 @ £139
Klipsch Pro Media 2.1 @ £159
Logitech Z523 @ £59.99 (cheap option)

Thanks. Have never heard of this one but looks good. I like the fact that the speakers are small enough to sit under my monitor. Will add it to the list ! ;-)

Edifier do nice speakers, usually at reasonable prices.
I have the old 1600 ones, which are a touch large but absolutely great for the price!

Thanks. Has anyone got either of the Logitech speakers in my list? It's bviously a cheaper option but I don't know how rich Santa is feeling this year!

I've had two sets of logitech speakers. I wasn't impressed with them at all. I've now got a pair of soundsticks by Harman Kardon. Really impressed by them; great all rounders. I picked them up for 100 in PC world so if you've got that much to splash out on a pair of speakers I highly recommend them.

I can back this up - I bought some Edifier MP300 Plus speakers last christmas and they've been excellent - they're not high powered but the sound is nice and clear. I picked mine up from PC World, but you can probably get them a bit cheaper if you shop around. TBH speakers are such a matter of personal taste it's probably worth sticking your head in somewhere like PC World and see if you can get a demo of a few different sets - it'll give you more of an idea what you like, even if you end up buying from elsewhere.

The only logitech speakers I've ever had were a set of S200, and they were pretty good for the price, but they're a budget speaker (and lets be honest, they weren't amazing, just good). I've never heard anyone raving about logitech's mid- to high-end speajer systems....

To be honest, I got sick of all the cables from a 2.1 set-up and opted for a reasonable set of stereo speakers. I always liked my Creative set of 2.1. so opted for the Creative Gigaworks T20 which I've been more than happy with for ~ £60

How many cables are there in a 2.1 setup??!!
My RT1600s have one from the headphones socket, one from the mains and one from the left speaker to the right one...

I agree that Creative are good quality speakers. Personally would like some wireless speakers but haven't yet come across a cost effective solution. Anyone have any suggestions?

I'm very skeptical about wireless speakers; I've had some in the past and they've not been very good. There was a hiss, and that's when you could get them to connect! I've only just bought a wireless mouse because I was fed up with rubbish cables (the G602 - it's INCREDIBLE). I'm sure newer stuff is better, but I still don't trust bluetooth; it's rubbish. Sonos, at least from experience, is very good and works flawlessly. I'd say their stuff sounds okay, quite similar to Bose really. A very warm sound - great for acoustic stuff, but lacking in sparkle.
