Re: 18 year olds dream car

When the 306 was new it was renown for its chassis.
Now it's renown for breaking down.
The initial halo of love was once again destroyed by the the inability of the French to make eletrical systems last last the life of the rest of the vehicle - or should I say the life we expect a vehicle to last.

I tend not to recommend Italian or French cars because of the known faults - Punto's shouldn't need new suspension after 60k miles in this day and age for example. Both nationalities seem to have a willful desire to make good cars badly - or indeed bad cars in the same way.

To dismiss a car on looks or simply because it is German is a folly. Though many have their own inherant problems, their positives usually outweight the opposite.

Of course there is always and exception to the rule.
The 206 would be bad simply because of that damn gawping maw they call a grill.

insurance will suck on this, being 18, and male, and in a badly rated postcode

1700 quid i paid for my 1.4 litere 16v automatic, turquoise vauxhall corsa, for a year...

nah, dont want no german tat
and i dont like the 205, the 206, 306, 106 all look far better...
insurance is about more than groups. some cars are accident magnets

and corsas, since so many new drivers drive them (blame BSM for this), have a *dreadful* accident record with insurers

almost any other 1.4 would be cheaper for you

    Sorry, I completely disagree.

    See this man's eloquent reply for my views;

Re: 18 year olds dream car

How can you disagree that a new engine wouldn't have solved overheating and electrical issues? Of course, if it's been done BADLY there will be some

Look at it. It's a longdituinaly mounted YB. I don't, not for one second, think for that the original Pugeot Radiator, Engine management or running gear has anything to do with that car! If it drives the front wheels, it'll only be in addition to the rear ones (short of a SABB gearbox).

For me, although I'm 2 years away from thinking about driving one of these or these. The Second is more practical, but i'd rather have the first one

Re: 18 year olds dream car

An 18 year old to drive that 306 Cosworth conversion ? The sevicing and maintenance on something this unique is likely to cost what you're used to paying for insurance for the year. And to get quotes for insurance you'd need to get used to:
    1) Spontaneous laughter
    2) Comments of "Is this FoneJacker?"
    3) Prices around the same as a 3 bed semi-detached house in a nice area

And it's all for a reason, over the years i've know 6/7 18 year olds buy powerful cars (Escort RS Turbo, Astra GTE etc.) and I can only think of one that didn't write it off in the first 6 months.

Also, if it ain't RWD then I would imagine with 400bhp the 0-60 to be around 25secs, or in other terms 19 secs of wheelspin and then 6 secs to 60

Look at the bulge out into the footwell under the gearstick (and the lack of trim around that area). Looks to me like it's had the Sierra transmission tunnel welded in. So yes. RWD or 4x4.

That on top of the way the engine is facing.
