    Peugeot 306 cutting out

My peugeot 306 1994 keeps cutting out when waiting at lights etc unless i keep the revs up. First of all every warning light comes on then if not revved the engine just stops. You can hear it struggling as if it is not turning over properly. Please help me. I have had really bad experiences with mechanics about other vehicles. Please tell me it is something small. Alternator, fuel filter?????????

    Thanks in advance

When I last read up about a similar problem, there were many potential causes.

When was the distributor cap or spark plug cables last inspected or changed? Are the symptoms consistent, regardless of temperature or rainfall?

To be honest, could be one of many things, usual suspect is one of the lambda sensors has gone or the air flow meter. Could also be the idle control valve or the crank sensor. if you can get it to idle unplug the air flow meter and then plug it back in back in, if when you do this it revs up etc then its working. If it does nothing at all then it could be that. If the gases from the exhaust stink then it could be a lambda sensor. If the engine management light is on then save time and money and take it to a garage so they can put the diagnostics on it and tell you what it is.

    When was it last serviced??

My 106 was idling badly and a service made a big difference.

try and get the fault codes read (PP2000) , or have a session on a PP2000 , so you can see whats happening with the engine.

    Re: Peugeot 306 cutting out

I had this problem. I lived with it for couple of years since I hate spending money and mechanics just scratched there head and fixed some other problem instead of what I'd asked them to.

anyway...my battery died. New battery. no more problem.

    very happy.

I know this is an old post, but for anybody else looking for same issues. Here's what our problem was 1.4 306 meridian s reg. ours kept cutting out at every junction and Revs were high, non start from cold. Mth later fan cut in straight away. Here's what we did, replaced heat sensor which solved the problem of fan cutting in. Then encountered no speedo and no fuel gauge, replaced fuse which solved speedo and fuel gauge issues. Then we cleaned throttle body . I'm not sure on the name of the part that was the problem on ours but it's a round plastic which turns a pin which controls the flap on the throttle body.(electrical ) Ours was to sensitive so we drilled another hole in plastic and set it in a slightly different position so it was not to sensitive. Now our car does not cut out and no high revs and also starts up from cold . So if our has any problems in future we will replace with a new one.
