    Insurance - Named Driver

If I have someone else on my insurance and they have an accident how does that affect my insurance and my NCD?

Do I lose my NCD, do they lose theirs on their own separate policy?
What if I take them off my policy afterwards or when I renew?

    Just in theory

I think it affects your policy, and if your NCD isn't protected, you'll lose it.

The other person will also have the accident noted against them, so you both lose out...

Yeah think it's a double whammy. You have made a claim on your policy, so will lose the NCB and have to declare it for 3/5/7 years. The someone else has had an accident so will have to declare it for 3/5/7 years.

    Re: Insurance - Named Driver

If you have them as a named driver, they are named on the policy.

If anyone needs to claim, it's off the policy.

NCB is based on policy - hence why you can have an accident in a car, yet still have full NCB on a motorbike policy without any protection.

Your NCB will be altered if you ever claim on the policy with no protection, regardless of who is at fault (you or the named driver that is). The declaration of an actual accident is based on the person though, so if you don't have them named in the future, you can honestly say that you haven't had an accident, but you cant claim you have a higher NCB then you have because of this.

Edit - Keep in mind that in most situations, NCB is the single biggest alteration (for the better) that can be made to a policy in reducing your premium.

    Re: Insurance - Named Driver

Even having a third party taking full blame can affect your policy. My premium increased a great deal 2 years ago, all because I was hit by another vehicle whilst waiting at traffic lights, they took full blame, yet on the renewal I was deemed to be a higher risk having been involved in an accident. Maybe I'm more likely to be in the wrong place at the wrong time thatn others.

If it isn't stupid money to protect NCB always take the option, just in case. I'm abot to lose my NCB having not been a holder of a premium for almost 2 years, unless that rule has changed.

    Re: Insurance - Named Driver

Your question is a bit vague.

Do you mean, they have an accident and claim on their policy? Or they have an accident and claim on your policy?

If you mean they have a crash in their own car and claim on their own policy, it will have zero effect on your policy.

If they crash your car and you make a claim on your policy, it will effect your renewal quote.

I always protect NCB now. Find your best online quote, then call up Chris Knott insurance, they'll likely beat it!

    Re: Insurance - Named Driver

If the named driver has had an accident (whether or not it was their fault) that resulted in a claim (even if it wasn't on your policy) you still need to declare it as it may affect the risk, and therefore the premium. You will probably be asked about it at renewal time.

The circumstance will affect the assessment of risk.
