Exclamation Peugeot 206 - New headunit will not come on

I really hope someone can suggest something as it has been driving me insane

It seems that if I plug a new head unit in my car it will not power on. I tried 2, 1 would turn off if the volume went past 20 and the other worked fine. I however fitted some new door speakers (which are below the wattage the stereo will take).

And the stereo will since not come on and neither will the other one. However plugging in the stock one works no problems.

What could this be?? I have swapped the fuses around and put new ones in on the stereo and under the steering wheel. No idea what this could be?

    Thanks in advance

I'd bet the stock headunit is wired differently. Have you got a 206 specific wiring kit?

Hi no I don't but they were turning on at first so do you still think it's the wiring?

Re: Peugeot 206 - New headunit will not come on

there are often 2 supply wires.

one is constant and the other is switched ( when the ignition is turned on )

usually a headunit will use the constant to remember user settings on the unit. When you turn off the engine and remove the keys, the headunit should power down.

some headunits may need both connected before it will work, especially if its a aftermarket one.

have you checked all the connections? have you spliced them or have you used a proper adaptor??

What kind of headunit do you have?

This, my money is on you having fused the memory supply by drawing the main load from it, then changing the fuse on the main load. Have you checked all the fuses?

Re: Peugeot 206 - New headunit will not come on

deejayburnout - thank you for your time. No I have just used the existing cables from the aftermarket stereo. Basically It was all working fine, I fitted 2 new speakers, had to force the stereo in to be honest as a friend just gave it to me and when taking it out of his car he bent the chassis to get it out, so I had to bend it to get it back in. This is when it stopped working, so I thought I had broken the stereo. And yes I have the 2 yellow wires plugged in, and 2 red wires.
I don't think it's the speakers as I tried it before putting everything back together, I did however notice that I had accidentally put red to yellow and yellow to red when taking it out. Would this have done anything?

Tried 2 after market ones since, and both will not power on. But the original one works no problems!

herulach - The only fuse I really looked at, and replaced was number 24 being the one for the stereo, and the ones on the actual stereos. Should I look at others?

The head unit I have tried are 2 different JVC ones, and an Alpine.

And if it makes any difference, the car is a Roland Garros, so it has an alarm and immobiliser. No idea if this would have changed anything when tampering with stereo to get it in. The stock stereo just asks for the code when plugging in back in as normal.

All sorted! After all of that it was just a fuse which was for the mirrors, aircon and obviously stereo (although the stock one worked) strange. But thanks guys!
