    New battery

Having coaxed my car battery through last winter with the careful use of a battery charger, it is flagging with the current cold snap.

Rather than pop to Halfords, anyone recommend a good UK supplier? My concern is ending up with a counterfeit item.

    Re: New battery

Why not Halfords? I like going to physical stores for things like that since the price is usually ok (shipping kills) and if things go pear shaped, you can usually get a turn around quite fast. Otherwise, have you been to the Asda in Chandlers Ford? They have a small garage operating in the side of the Asda and the battery prices were quite OK IIRC, I went there for tyres previously.
edit: Found they have a website. http://barmertyre.yellsites.co.uk/home

    Re: New battery

I'd agree about the physical store (and I usually do go to Halfords (just round the corner from me) and a small Quidco discount!. Just wondered if anyone had used any of the internet sites. I think I know that ASDA - just up from the BMW dealer?

    Re: New battery

I think there is a BMW dealer along that road (or certainly some expensive cars, might have been Audi actually), but the Vauxhall dealer is closer to the Asda I'm thinking of. I spend most of my time south of the M27, so most of Eastleigh is a mystery to me.

Got mine from the RAC when the old one packed up... Not much use to you, but it was very easy.

    Re: New battery

Some garages do good walk-in prices. Motorworld and places like that, though they may not be a chain store. TBH halfords isn't a bad bet

I wouldnt go to halfords. More like Halfrauds

They would charge you alot more than you think. Better of going to a smaller garage.

The price is on the shelf!! I don't want/need it fitted!. As AEAaATS said, easier to claim on warranty if there are problems, and possibly less risk of a counterfeit item.

    Re: New battery

Batteries are one of the very few items that I will get from Halfords. I get the Calcium Tech ones, bit more expensive but they seem to be worth it and have a longer warranty too.

+1 for ECP as a national place, pretty much my first point for stuff now. Bought batteries for both mine and my girlfriends car from there, we get Exide as the guarantee is the same and the cold cracking amperes is better rated than the comparable Bosch
Add it to your basket, create an account but dont check out, you usually get a discount code emailed to you

    Re: New battery

    Peter.. have you bought yet?

If you get one from a Factor, see if they stock Yuasa. Very good battery.

If not, then you cvan get Exide or Bosch or Varta online from Amazon.

Varta make Bosch batteries for them, to the Bosch spec.

Cheap batteries weigh nothing and contain less lead. Period. Avoid the unknown brands.

Try EuroCarParts in Millbrook. They do some pretty good deals and I've never had any problems with them. I think they do free/cheap delivery as well
