    Ford Focus 1.0 Ecoboost MPG

    Hi all

I've met two main Ford dealers now who told me that their Ford Ecoboost punters are, on the whole, struggling to get anywhere near what they thought was viable on their MPG, except on long steady runs

The cars improve around 6000 miles (most do.. my diesels all get much better from 5k onward) but the town drivers who bought it to hopefully save in traffic and shopping etc are having the worst time.

I saw two in part exchange last week.. punters buying the 1.6 used car to get back to a sensible MPG

Have any of you got one?

I don't. I have heard that economy is nowhere near quoted, but actually I heard fiestas with the same engine were OK as city cars - not spectacular, but they lose out most for B-road/hilly stuff rather than town driving.

Aside from going electric/hybrid there's nothing town drivers can do - everything else is rubbish for mpg really.

They could go for a Tesla, a snip at just £80,000 and up, I'm not sure I'll be convinced to go electric yet, even if they can do 300 miles on a full charge now.

A friend has a hybrid as they travel in london quite a lot - seems great apparently and no more to buy second hand than any other car in the same class really.

Re: Ford Focus 1.0 Ecoboost MPG

If you want good MPG, I've been amazed by the Citroen DS3 1.6 Diesel Hire Car I've had - I've not done the mpg calculation, but fuel seems to last an impressively long time. That's on a mixture of around town/stop start and longer motorway runs.

Re: Ford Focus 1.0 Ecoboost MPG

My brother has a 1.6 ecoboost in a C-Max. He lives on the Isle of Man, where you're lucky to get above 35mph anywhere realistically. He's getting between 41-45mpg out of it, which isn't bad. My Diesel Focus (1.6) was returning between 47-49mpg over there, compared with 53-55 over here. The Focus is a bit of a weighty car to put a 1 litre motor in though - I think the kerb weight is somewhere around 1300kg....

Re: Ford Focus 1.0 Ecoboost MPG

I was thinking about getting a Ford B-Max with the EcoBoost engine... Guess i'll hold off on that for now. My partner wanted something with sliding rear doors and not too big for her to drive, and not something too small either . I personally prefer to get an estate with a diesel engine.

Both of my last two cars exceed the quoted figures - an Astra 1.7dti and my current Audi A3 2.0tdi.

But diesel this, diesel that - we know they're great for commutes.. but they are NOT city cars.

I find the economy of my diesel around town is OK. An actual city might be different ofc.

Still wonder if I should go back to petrol with the next car though. After over a year of owning an oil burner I still don't like the way they drive. But then going petrol puts me back on the slippery slope down to "Well that V6 one looks nice"

Re: Ford Focus 1.0 Ecoboost MPG

I used to get over 50mpg on motorways with my old 2001 MK1 Focus (1.6 petrol). I was happy with that . It had better fuel consumption figures than the 1.2 Corsa SXi that i had afterwards (crap car!). I've been looking at a couple of reasonably priced estates such as the Peugeot 207 & 308 HDi models (are peugeot any better these days?)... Not looking for anything too big.

after 4000 miles all my Insignia CDTi's easily do what the brochure says.. if I go really carefully I can get 70mpg with a hatch, but normal daily motorway bashing is always way over 50mpg and close to 60mpg on some trips.

if you want inexpensive, poky AND economical... get a Kia Cee'd... seriously.. I was getting near 60mpg round town in a 1.6 Diesel '12 plate... it was a bit cheap feeling, but considering you were getting 127 ponies out of it, blinding efficiency. Don't pay actual money for a Peugeot though - they're awful.

Yeah but they're on the move a lot of the time. If you're going to be travelling all day then diesel is great, and using the same car for lots of journeys in a day is pretty green, especially if you can minimise travel between clients.
