Hello everybody, I would like to play a game...

I tried this on Facebook and nobody managed to get the right answer (also I don't think anybody cared that much but that's another story) however getting to the wrong answers proved amusing enough that I thought I'd try this here...

Basically the game is this - How much money did Knoxville just pay for this junk?

Bear in mind, the servo and master cylinder are probably scrap and will have to be treated as such...

Extra bonus smug points will also be made available to anyone who can work out how much it will cost to rebuild.

Nope it's staying here (when it actually gets here tomorrow) because to get one of these without it being attatched to a scrap Land Rover is like trying to find a set of Venus's arms that were hewn into shape with hens teeth

Is that the clutch pedal & gubbins? If it is, and they're anything like doors to get hold of, then you probably paid a lot for it in Landy terms... £80? I'm going to go ahead and assume that you can fit it yourself, in which case all it'll cost is time....

Re: Hello everybody, I would like to play a game...

KeyboardDemon, you just saved me a sentence... g8ina, I'm not angry mate. Just dissapointed

Tumbles close enough that if I tell him what it isn't he'll get it on the next go. It's a brake pedal, mounting and servo with a dual line master cylinder attatched. The important difference between this and what's on my truck right now are the words "dual line", which means when one component fails the whole system doesn't follow suit unlike the single line system I have currently. Why British Leyland were under the impression single line brake systems should still be standard fitment well into the seventies is beyond me. Because when one goes wrong it goes all the way!

And the price of all of this oxidised iron? £102 English imperial credits of the realm, plus the cost of having it hauled up to me from Essex by a bloke in a van... A minor jaunt compared to the journey from Cyprus that an NOS inlet manifold from a military lightweight is currently undertaking to get to me.

Re: Hello everybody, I would like to play a game...

Hard to estimate refurb cost. With luck the master cylinder internals will be OK, protected by the brake fluid, so at worst you may have to ultrasonically clean them. The seals themselves,(bearing in mind it is a long time since I rebuilt a BL master cylinder) probably around £15 to £20. If you are planning on rebuilding the servo< I guess parts about another £20.

Time, With a bit of luck and a following wind, maybe 90 minutes for he cylinder. No idea about the servo, a couple of hours perhaps a bit less.

Re: Hello everybody, I would like to play a game...

It turned out to be a total teardown job in the end. The master was actually the wrong type for my shorter wheelbase and as a result smaller drum brake set up so a complete replacement had to be ordered rather than a rebuild kit. Rebuilding a servo beyond the vacum inlet was also deemed "not avisable" so I bought a brand new one of those... Throw in a new brake light switch and some bits and bobs and the total bill was triple your estimate Peter, which actually wouldn't have been far off otherwise.

Now I just have to find the money for a Zenith/Weber carb adaptor plate and a standard intake tube as both have been replaced and ghetto'd together by the previous owner with what I'm assuming are old Rover P series items.

Why am I messing with carbs and inlet manifolds to sort out my brakes? Because Land Rover problems....

    The nightmare continues!
