The compelling argument for a model S for me was that I could swap the battery, but they demo'd the tech only to not roll it out. I'd happily drop the £100k on a company car that has zero tax.....

If I'm driving London to Cornwall I don't want to stop at all. So I'll stick with my little eco diesel and get 75mpg, I think the PBS was the only way I could justify a supercar.

All EVs are rated at 7% BIK value, not 0%

I think it was 4% when I was looking but was set to rise, the main thing was once netting off the depreciation or something, it was a while back I was looking at this, but it certainly worked out a lot cheaper than taking the money out, and was a lot less than buying a luxury car of the similar petrol ilk.

A company car has suddenly become an option for me, so it's something I've looked into lately. My company has an emissions limit on company cars, so the highest emissions are still "low" by most standards.

Comparing PHEVs is easier, since it's like-for-like and you can avoid pissy arguments about the relative merits of different cars

A BMW 330e M Sport has a book value of £35,955, so a BIK value of 7% of that (£2,516.85), so you pay income tax at your marginal rate on that amount (e.g. 40%, or £1,006.74 a year)

A BMW 320d M Sport has a book value of £31,990, so a BIK value of 24% of that (£7,677.60), so you pay income tax at your marginal rate on that amount (e.g. 40%, or £3,071.04 a year)

A Merc C350e Sport has a book value of £38,230, so a BIK value of 7% of that (£2,676.10), so you pay income tax at your marginal rate on that amount (e.g. 40%, or £1,070.44 a year)

A Merc C250d AMG Line has a book value of £36,280, so a BIK value of 25% of that (£9,070.00), so you pay income tax at your marginal rate on that amount (e.g. 40%, or £3,628.00 a year)

A Merc C200 Sport Premium Plus has a book value of £32,815, so a BIK value of 21% of that (£6,891.15), so you pay income tax at your marginal rate on that amount (e.g. 40%, or £2,756.46 a year)

Kinda obvious why PHEVs are so spectacularly popular as company cars now, when you're paying about 66% less tax per year (even if you never plug them in)

It was even cheaper before, the other thing is when it's your company, you can net off the depreciation of the asset too.

My accountant was advising PHEVs too. But frankly my 5 year old DS3 is giving me no trouble, why waste money!

Re: So did anyone watch the "new" Top Gear?

So, in an attempt to forget about BRexit for a few minutes, I watched a lot of football, then watched the latest TG last night while doing some work. how many sections distracted me from work? 2 and a half. No EJ, no Sabrine, better for it. I still feel like the articles lack something vs the old TG. I don't know what it is, but there is something that isn't quite there anymore. Even in the better articles with MLB, CH and RR.

I just saw this - sounds like MLB is thinking of leaving which would be a blow as he's one of the better things about the current crop. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016...t-chris-evans/

To be fair, MLB is the more interesting, personable host.

It would be quite interesting to let him run with it. He is a rather oddly anglicised septic.

Chris Harris is the best IMO. His reviews are great and he is starting to look more laid back and fun. Others look like trees in the woods. Also his driving skills seem superior.

Re: So did anyone watch the "new" Top Gear?

Took me a little while to get around to it, but I've now watched the first four episodes (& Extra Gear) on catch-up; sadly my Freeview reception isn't reliable so I have to rely on iPlayer.

Despite all the doom and naysaying, I'm pleasantly surprised. The first show was rather awkward and shaky, but improved markedly from the 2nd show onwards - and by the 3rd I thought it was fine. I agree that CE's hyperenthusiasm can grate; MLB is proving to be a great host, but I think RR is actually very good and should be given a bigger role. While the camaraderie isn't convincing, it's early days so don't think it's fair to expect it straight away. I liked the idea of having SS on the show, but she hasn't really added anything to the studio segments so far. Enjoyed the CH films, and I think he'll get better as time goes on.

Reid, Harris and MLB could actually make a show. Evans is too annoying. And he hasn't changed clothes yet.

Started watching S08 of the US Top Gear ... and now when there is no Jeremy Clarkson on the UK version ... the US one seems waaaay batter.

I think this is good, hopefully EJ plays less of the idiot role next series and they bring RR and CH in to the main show. And maybe dangle a carrot in front of Jensen Button

I think SS still has potential too, polishes up very nicely for the studio bits as well..

I hope they get rid of EJ, or teach him how to present without being so annoying. The former is probably quicker. And no spoons. WTF was that all about? Can you imagine paying that much to go on the OE and then having some muppet clacking spoons. Awful!
