    Build your own V8

2 years ago my son and I built one of these

It's genuinely one of the best models I have ever built

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Haynes-V8-M...ords=v8+engine

It's now reasonably cheap at £40 and I think I'd like to suggest it to ,...nearly every one.

When you build it, do it PROPERLY. Trim off all swarf/plastic moulding edges... make sure you put the head gaskets on perfectly and they align perfectly, spend time on it and go slow. It's a pleasure that you may never get in real life in a cold garage somewhere.

Ignoring the sound effects (which I think somewhat lessen the things actual style)... you WILL learn SO much about engines

there is a 4pot version....very cheap now at £20 and it too is great

BUT the V8 can teach you SO much about timing, and valves and rockers and crankshafts.

    Re: Build your own V8

I got Car Mechanic Simulator recently in a Steam sale, and I found that quite good at understanding the basics on how an engine goes together. Also oddly satisfying taking an old banger and "restoring" it!

I spend too much time helping out mechanic friends, already. This would just feel like more work.

Do they have a BMW version where everything is either awkward to fit, or a complete pain in the bum to get to?

you just build it IN the box, while only part lifting the lid... but before you do that, line the inner edges of the box with sharp metal...
