Shot in the dark; car valuation help

In short im having a fairly dire month, split up with my long term gf last week, saw my parents for the first & last time this year week before & now i just went and crashed my car. As a student approaching his 2nd uni year money isnt that avaliable (and i do need the car) so i need 2 make my funds stretch. As a result im desperate to get the best price for my once beloved saxo.

It has a FSH, solid engine & gearbox, 4 good tires, but also poor quality paintwork & a fairly shabby interior. The bumper, both lights, radiator, fan, slam panel & bonnet are all FUBAR'd, and would cost £500ish for replacement parts, before labor.

Does anyone have any advice on what sort of price i could try & sell it at (for spares) or sell it at to a scrappy for?

I know this should be in the auto section, but im a bit desperate and want to try and get the widest possible advice.

what we need to identify is it's value to

A: you, if you fixed it
B: toa scrappy of bodyshop to either scrap it or mend it

Why is this not an insurance claim? Third party only?

sorry, should have added those things;

Its a Citroen Saxo 1.1litre Desire, met black, elec windows, power steering, FSH.
70k miles, but poor paint work & cloth seats have seen better days.
I am the 2nd owner, first was a female driver, iv put 40k on there and have kept up services & MOT on time. Its due for its MOT in 2 months, tax month after that.

Prob worth around £1,200, before the crash. Repairs would be £500 for parts new, but that doesnt inc labor. Even if i did repair it i wouldnt get more then £1000 for it.

As for my insurance, i have a £650 excess with Endsleigh, and 3.5 years NCB to loose. So in essence id pay £650, loose my NCB only for them to work out a few 100 more, then charge me double next year for insurance renewal. As a result iv asked the women i hit to find a few garages, get a few quotes & ill pay for any damage.

any advice? scrappies are offering £130 for it, but a few priviate buyers have said they'll pay £180+ for it. With £400 £500 worth of (new) parts and a couple of hours from an amature mechanic it could be back on the road & up for sale round £1100 id say.

It's a newish car so with the proper tools and some time you should be able to DIY easily, maybe with a bit of help

I managed to change one of the belts on my car, apparently the official garage would be £250 or so, some borrowed tools and help for the cost of a pint and it cost me £10 for the same part.

As your car is around 8 years old have a look at scrapyards for the bits you need, no point buying brand new parts if you can save some moolah

lets face it 9 years old and alot of work involved its not going to be cost effective to repair it, to sell it, as it will be costing you a mega amount to repair in comparison to what it will be worth...

the market value of a car with that kind of paintwork/milage/interieor/engine is around £500-£1000

so your looking at spending half of what the car is worth, to then maybe make what you spend on it back...

look at the ones that have sold (green) not too many of them and low prices...

shame, but i'd say whatever you get offered, if around £200 i'd take... as it really wont be worth your time to put it right...

even if you fix it, you might have a hard time shifting it on looking at those completed listings on ebay.
