GPRS - Blackberry V MS Mobile

    Hi,

My CEO is trying to get hold of his emails in Kaliningrad, Russia on his handheld MS Mobile 5 device whilst Roaming but is unable to. In the UK he is on Vodafone.
Anothe guy out there on a Blackberry using a different network O2 UK can.

Is this because they are on different mobile networks from the UK or is it that Blackberry works differently.

Really trying not to move to Blackberry.

    Thanks in advance.

It may be that Vodafone don't support international roaming with GPRS?

When you say unable to, does it time out? or can he not connect at all?

Thanks for replying sooo quick Dave.

    No connection at all.

I'm thinking of moving over to the O2 network that the guy is on with the Blackberry. CEO is not the most forgiving if things don't work though

A blackberry server is just a little over the top for one or two users in Russia though.

Hmm, have you tried ringing Vodafone Support? They have been most helpful when I've used them (I'm on a contract with them)

Other thing is get your CEO to switch the network he's connected to (Vodafone will have multiple Partner networks out there, some which may support GPRS/3G, where as others may not).

Yeah, contacted them but they only had info on Moscow.

Tried many different networks in Russia, much to the annoyance of the boss.

Just got an email back from one of the Russian networks stating they only have a gprs contract with T-Mobile, Orange and O2.

Looks like I'll have to move over to a new network, for the boss anyway.

Many many thanks for the help though.

No worries, its a shame, as when I went out to Russia (on a BT contract) it was fine

I'm off there in a few weeks with a Palm Treo, we'll see what happens. Going to go ahead with the O2, fingers crossed or I'll be looking for a new job.

BT run through the T-Mobile Network - so that definately works out there - unless things have changed massively in the last 2 or so years...
