New phone time... Nokia or Blackberry??

It's that time again... I need a new phone!

I have an iPod Touch, so don't really need a lot of the things that iPhone's offer, I really just want a phone (!), access to email, and some internet browsing.
I don't want to spend a load on monthly payments, so sadly HTC's are out.
I have a choice of 4... any opinions on the following greatfully received Thanks!

    NOKIA C3 Touch & Type
    NOKIA X3-02 Touch & Type
    BLACKBERRY Curve 8520
    BLACKBERRY Pearl 9105

I've had a lot of sobering thoughts in my time.... It was them that started me drinking.

I got the Blackberry 9105 (contract free) for the Mrs at Christmas, she loves it. Mostly uses it for Blackberry messenger but also browser for train times etc and email, from what I have seen is great.

Hmm ever considered going the Android route?? The Orange San Francisco is £89 sim free/payg atm I think and is a very well regarded value Android phone.

Oooo... that would work... not considered that one!
Another to add to the list of considerations then. Can't find many reviews on it though.

Whats "Not a lot"? A blackberry would be a good choice, the curve is a decent model too..but imo the main selling point these days is BBM - would you use it? It's the one killer app that I wish I could have on my iPhone ;(

The curve can be had for £10 a month though (free) so its a bargain regardless

Re: New phone time... Nokia or Blackberry??

Did you go for the SanFran...? A friend of mine has one and it seems like a great phone for the money, although the camera is pretty pants...

If you're still considering those Nokia models, there are better phones than the C3 Touch & Type (there's a review here which notes some flaws - it has a resistive screen, and just doesn't have a huge range of features for its price range - nice build quality though by the sounds of it).

Ofc it's Symbian, too, the good old "burning platform" as the Nokia CEO called it (before jumping into bed with MS, frying platform and into the fire springs to mind!).

The BlackBerry would be a better choice than Nokia I reckon - and the SanFran particularly given the outlay, if you can live with that camera.

Re: New phone time... Nokia or Blackberry??

Hope you didn't go for a Nokia or BB when so many good and cheaper Android Handsets are available. I've spent the last week with a Samsung GT-I5800 which is £90 on payg and it's actually not that awful. Sure, it's not as quick or feature packed as the Desire HD and the screen is lower res, but for that kinda money it's actually really good and has worked with all the main Android apps I use (Pulse, Facebook, Tweetcaster etc.) And plays some of my favourite games.

Re: New phone time... Nokia or Blackberry??

I still haven't got my new phone... wasn't due to get it until after 17 April, so was researching ahead of time, but I really need to sort it out now. I was hoping to move from my £15/ month to £20/ month and get a free phone... which is why HTC Desire and iPhones are out.

You have definately put me off the Nokia touch and type (I just fancied that as I like the idea of having keys in addition to the touch screen.. for texting speed!)... but the HTC Wildfire is now on the list, although screen quality sounds as though it may be poor, and battery life not great.
I need to go into an Orange store next and have a play with a few phones... will definatley consider the San Fran I think, camera may not be great but you can't have everything I suppose without spending loads!

Carphone Warehouse have the HTC Desire on Orange from £15pm ...

Personally i found the HTC Wildfire a great phone apart from the screen resolution doesn't compare well to most higher end smartphones, I all suppose it depends what you are used to though.

Re: New phone time... Nokia or Blackberry??

My old man has just got the Wildfire and he loves it. Must admit I did find that the screen did have quiet a low res in comparison to some other similar spec phones. But in the main its a solid bit of kit and well worth a look

Thinking of snagging one for myself on PAYG so that when my current contract is up for renewal in October I've got a decent phone and will take a monthly rolling Sim only deal with 02.

FWIW, I don't mind symbian - does all I need - and got a N8 for 22.50/mth as free upgrade, from Orange. Has loadsa mins/texts/512mb data. Excellent build quality, and best camera on the market.

Symbian is a dead OS. Buying a Symbian phone now is like buying a TV without Freeview or HDMI

Re: New phone time... Nokia or Blackberry??

Battery life on smart phones depends what you use it for, I can use mine just for texting and calling and it'll last a few days, start turning on BT,Wifi, email sync, GPS and all that and I can kill it easily in a few hours, it really does depend what you use the phone for...
