Neat concept though, just a shame there is no word on pricing

If it can transfer the data fast enough through express card slots then this is a perfect solution for people who love thier laptops and dont want to replace everything jsut for the sake of dx10 although one thing is whether itll have the room for a full length dx10 card like the 8800 because if i remember correctly that is almost 30cm long!

surely you are going to get people moaning, and the bottlenecks that are going to happen will ruin this idea for most people.

as some of the more navie in the pc world, will think that they have bought an 8800 gtx and want the framerates they se on vadim pcs ect, not realising that thier 1.6 pentium m wont cut it..

Errrrrmmm...the ExpressCard standard specifies 1 PCI-E lane for ExpressCard support, as opposed to the 16 lanes typically used for PEG; isn't it just going to choke?

Does anyone know any more details about ATIs' lasso. I have seen 1 picture and and ATIs' mobile graphics enclosure and looks to use 2 usbs'. Are there any official details that anyone knows about?

    Nice, Very Nice.
Probably going to order a laptop for myself when I get to college (couple of years).
This will make that decision far more desirable.

Everything seems to have gone quiet about this, when i was looking i do remember seeing a couple of extra details on asus. I'll go have a little look.

Edit: I can't even seem to find the news i had before, i think it was only details of the cards that will be compatible with it until newer drivers get released. I suppose vista will have pushed anything like this back at least a bit anyway.

    Probably not that badly

When PCI-E x16 graphics cards first appeared a couple of years ago, tom's hardware did some experiments where they carefully masked off some of the pins of a PCI-E x16 graphics card, so that it only had an x8, x4 or even x1 connection to the host system. They ran some gaming benchmarks, and found that the performace was down, but not hugely. Something like 20% lower FPS on a x1 connection, which will still be ten times better than anything the integrated graphics on a notebook can manage.

That's useful to know; I wouldn't want to waste something very expensive on it, but a good mid-range card could be well worth.
