After hooking up my newly purchased NXZT Sentry 2 yesterday and experimenting with the fan speeds etc i've noticed that the top 2 fans (akasa amber 120mm fastened with rubber fan mounts) seem to make more noise when undervolted compared to when under full speed. Is this normal? it doesnt seem to make a difference with any of the other fans I've got so I'm confused. The fans are configured as exhaust in a CM690 case. I'm wondering if the undervolting is causing some vibrations somewhere perhaps?
Sounds like you've hit a resonant frequency of something in the case that's amplifying the sound. Either that or your ears are just more sensitive to a particular sound. Less volts = less energy = less noise is the simple maths, shame about real life!
What does the sound sound like?
You've probably got motor whine or buzz occurring when you drop the voltage.
it could be bearing noise, but unlikely from ambers, due to the ball baring which make less noise as the fans run slower.

Some budget fans really cant cope with anything less than 12V,
id be interested to know if these were swapped out for fans with better bearings whether this would still happen
