PCI Slot Cooling Fan - Any recomendations

i am wanting to add a cooling fan or pair of cooling fans under my GPU to aid cooling.

Been looking online and alot of these


are shown.

i had one of these, then removed it as it seems pointless as i want to blow cooler air on/over the GPU not take it away.

i have seen some like



that look like a good idea but also look tacky and with no speed control.

i have saw this also



but its a bit big.

Is there such as thing as a PCI slot powered solution?

any recomendations or experience that you have had would be deeply appreciated.

Well erm put it on the side that has the hot air and use it to remove that hot air from your case.

The hotter side would most probably be above the GPU and unfortunately most GPUs slots are at the top of the mobo and all the coolers above are designed to go in PCI slots which are all below the GPU.

Could always use a standard fan on a homemade wire coat hanger / zip tied frame?

If you want to get cold air into your graphics card you really need to to look at case fans on the side panel, pulling air in, or some kind of ducting pulling air from underneath or behind the case. Simplest option would probably be to cut some holes in the bottom of your case and add intake fans (with good filters ) to the bottom, so they pull the (theoretically) cooler air from underneath your case into it. Alternatively, you could try adding fans onto the hard drive bays in your case to blow more air backwards towards your graphics card.

To be absolutely honest, though, as long as you've got some airflow going through your case you shouldn't have too many problems. I had a stock 8800GTX in a cheapo beige box with a single 80mm exhaust and it never got above 84C, so I can't see your 6850 getting particularly warm...

The highest my GPU gets when gaming is 71 deg, so not sure how bad that is

My case does have good airflow with 2 x coolermaster 120mm fans at the front, 1 x 120 fan on the side and 1 x 120 exhaust at the back. My dual fans on my hyper 212 evo must help too.

I just feel like I should have better air flow for my GPU, seems a bit hot for my liking on idle at 50deg.

Mind you, its fan has been causing problems and I had to turn my PC off as it hit 98 deg while watching you tube last night

My old 6850 ran in the early 70's during gaming but never seen 98. Personally I run msi afterburner with the monitoring turned on so I have life temps and fan speeds at all times. would also run the fan in manual mode and see if it dips in rpm.

I considered a pci blower for a while, all the reviews I saw were terrible. Seems they're basically all loud + ineffective.

Doesn't seem to spin as fast as it should, effectively not cooling as it should and my temps skyrocket.

Card is only 3 months old.

No idea what caused it.

wow, doesn't look good. is the small plug of the fan fully inserted in the gpu? when you set the fan speed manually does it still pulse like that?

If you touch the fan blade when it turns and I mean lightly touch it, the fan stops.

I know one of my fans does that, can't remember off hand if its the gpu or rear exhaust. when you stop it with your finger it takes a second or 2 to spin back up. does it spin freely when the unit is switched off.

Yes it did. Seemed to have no resistance to it. Its away now so awaiting its replacement.

My airflow is fine, case has 3 supply fans on it and 1 extract. just wanna see if I can aid it along. If I can get lower temps, I might OC it a little.
