    Re: Coolermaster Silencio 550 X-Dock 3.5" SATA - WARNING!

I have mine working OK now.
It is in fact the 4-pin Molex power connector that's inverted. Normally, you can't get it in the wrong way because two of the corners are filleted to prevent you plugging it in the wrong way. But I found out the hard way: it is very easy to put it in the wrong way. The connector has to go "upside down", so the shaved-off corners are at the bottom, the long flat edge at the top.

As a picture is worth a thousand words and to save more people blowing up their HDDs...

    1. How can you tell if the power connector is in the right way???
    2. How do you connect the x-dock? Is it a 4-pin peripheral from the power supply and then a SATA cable to the motherboard? I couldn't find any instructions anywhere!
    Hi there,

You can only plug it in one way, if you have it up side down then you must force it in and you will notice it is not correct. But if you have any questions regarding this please if you can make a picture of it you can always contact our CM Support at this link below. They will be able to help you out:

    Re: Coolermaster Silencio 550 X-Dock 3.5" SATA - WARNING!

Hi Bram, just to say it is relatively easy to put in the wrong way round. There is a bit of resistance, but not much more than you normally get with the electrical pins making contact, so it's easy to not notice it being wrong.

I don't know if this is because the platic housing connector is thin or soft / flexible, but just from this thread, you can see that it's all too easy for it to go in the wrong way. Yes, if it happens, it's user error, but the combination of it being upside down and relatively easy to incorrectly insert means it happens more often than it should.

Maybe in a future version, you can really make the point its inverted and make it far more difficult to connect upside down. Just some constructive feedback
