    RAID Expansion Case

Hi all, it's been a while!

I was hoping someone on here might be able to help out.

I've recently build a cheap home file server using RAID, and have recently come into ownership of another 4 drives.

I'm wanting to put them to good use in another RAID array (my controller has a SAS port going spare, so rude not too!), however, with 6 disks already in my case, and only the space to fit another 2.5" drive, the 4 full sized drives aren't going to fit anywhere!

My hope is that someone out there in chassis land makes a small enough case that will fit my 4 drives, a fan, and some sort of PSU that will power up without a MB connector.

    Anyone got any ideas?

    Cheers folks

    Re: RAID Expansion Case

    2-Bay SATA -to- eSATA
    NA452C Mini Dual Case
<- two of these for £11.99 each?

5-Bay 5.25" Case CF-1051 Black Steel+ABS 320W PSU, 4+2xPorts <- Needs some accessories like rails and such but looks just like for you for £45.60

-> Span.com A lot of enclosures to choose from. Or if you like, can always go for the cheapest case you can find (either used from eBay or freecycle with at least 4 x 3.5" bays and a PSU wired to start without a MoBo -> How do I manually turn on an ATX power supply?) or strip down a second hand CD/DVD duplicator. Plenty of choices, depends what you like.

    Re: RAID Expansion Case

The first suggestion has RAID built into it, so not a goer for me, but that 2nd suggestion…. I think we may well have a winner!

The perfect case would be 1U in height so I can just slip it on top of my existing case (Antec Fusion Remote… thinggy), but beggars can't be choosers!

Many thanks for the span.com link!

    You are very welcome!

Sorry but at the beginning of the thread I had the feeling that you wanted to have something stand alone. Couldn't you have something in form of a spare HDD box from the Antec line or something similar?

Edit: Never mind, just seen your case Ye, your best choice will come from Span.com (a perfect fusion of price, look, available space and performance). Good luck and let us know
