| Best Spray Paint? How To? So I have a Silverstone SG03 case, and I want to spray paint the front and side mesh on the case, but I am not sure what type of spray paint, or the best way of doing this. I have used spray paint before, but it wasn’t as easy as I initially thought, any advice would be greatly appreciated. Oh, I haven’t decided what colour I will use, but it will be a variant of blue. |

| Young 'un | Re: Best Spray Paint? How To? It's all in the preperation, sand it all down and get a nice surface to the paint and it's alot easier. Depending on the finish you want, depends on what you use. |

| Overclocking Since 1988 | Re: Best Spray Paint? How To? Spary painting is realtively simple once you know the basics. First, make sure you have some form of catchment area. Second, make sure you invert the can, and discharge the remainer of the paint in the pipe to prevent a "clog" when you do another spray. Third, spary onto another surface before the intend surface to ensure that the paint is discharging normally. Fourth, spary in strikes close together hozintionally, then vertically, for the best finish. I have found very little varitation, apart from quality of colour when you follow these simple steps. | Re: Best Spray Paint? How To? Also, what the distance I should be spraying it from? Any good brands of spray paint out there? Should I get a glossy finish? Matt finish? Cheers for the good advice so far, I will summarise all of it at the end. |

| Overclocking Since 1988 | Re: Best Spray Paint? How To? About 20 to 30 centimeters is a good distance. As for glossy or matte, do you want it shinny or not? (i.e. compare a shinny new copper surface with one that is slightly oxidsed, one refects almost like a mirror, and the other is just copper coloured.) | Re: Best Spray Paint? How To? If you buy from a shop they should be able to show you samples to give you an idea of what the final finish will look like. Glossy is shiney (good eg go and have a look at a car that just been cleaned) Matte is dull and non-shiney Which to use? I'm not sure it's up to you how you want the final finish The issue you can have here is there's Matte and Matte, a true Matte finish is very dull and looks almost powerdy, many things called Matte are actually closer to a satine finish, which is very smooth and slightly shiney but still more shiney than ture Matte. However this 2nd satine matte is probably what you want if you do want a matte finish. Sanding depends on the current surface and how well the paint will stick to it. However as this is mesh you're planning to paint sanding it could pose real problems. You will want to give it a real good clean, my advice is to remove it from the panels, wash it well with hot water and basic cheap washing up liquid to fully remove and dust and degrease it. (You don't want expensive stuff because you don't want any moisterisers in it) rinse it well, a shower is useful here and let it fully dry out before painting. For spray painting hanging up the object your painting is good as is working outdoors (unless you have a properly ventilated space.) A washing line and cotten thread to hang the object works well as long as it's not too heavy. When spray painting outside don't do it if it's raining or spitting or it's windy I take it you have the silver version of this case not the black version? aka the bargin-bucket-build Is now FINISHED |

| Re: Best Spray Paint? How To? No you will want to degrease it as that may cause the paint not to stick correctly, basic washing up liquid works very well and is dirt cheap I thought you wanted to paint it balck which is why I asked about the colour, I missed the word blue One thing you may well need to do is get a primer as well as a paint, painting over black will often leave the colour you're painting dull and darker than it should be. For a lighter/brighter final colour you ideally want to paint over a white under/base coat. An etching primer will be best (I think, not 100% sure here) and very important, esp as this is mesh, thin layers. never paint a thick layer 3 or more thin layers is much better, let it dry between each layer (touch dry, time depending on paint and environment conditions) And leave it to full dry overnight or for 24 hours after the final coat. aka the bargin-bucket-build Is now FINISHED |
