Case cooling problems

Hello everybody,

I have lurked around many tech forums in my time but never really thought i had much to say or to ask so never registered. But i have come to the point where i need a bit of help
I plan on getting this case here, the beantech igloo 4. I cant find much info on this case but it looks fairly similar to a lian-li pc-65 or something.

Now the problem is that i cant decide on many things for the cooling aspect of this. I was considering watercooling, with the asetek kits, or a koolance exos. but i could'nt find anywhere that sold all the correct parts for the koolance in the uk. And the asetek kit looked as though it may not fit. Does anyone have a asetek kit in a lian-li pc-65 or a beantech igloo? (or one of the kingwin kt-424 series which is the exact same case ) Are the asetek kits easy to use as i have never used watercooling before?

Watercooling would be really nice and maybe then i may consider overclocking with some quality cooling. The only thing is price

So therefore i could also use some air cooling. I am currently looking at the thermalright xp-120 and it looks pretty good and all. With a beasty 120mm fan on it. But would this give me some good cooling and performance in comparison to one of the watercooling kits from above?

I would like the system to be quiet and cool. So which would you choose to cool your system if you was looking at a fairly small budget? say £50-150.

Also would anybody mind recommending me some nice 80mm fans with blue LEDs and perhaps a 120mm fan.

The most powerful 80mm blue LED fans i've come across are Akasa Nebula speed adjustable ones, but they're quite noisy when up full. The coolermaster ones are a lot quieter, and still nice fans. I'd say bung a couple of the Akasa's on a fan controller for when you want the speed.

i am gonna get me a fan controller. probably the akasa one or the vantec one. Those fans look nice and are fairly cheap at kustompcs. They would look good through the grill on the front of that case.


i have also noticed three cases that also look good but don't know if they perform as well as they look yet.

I might wait for them to be released before i upgrade fully.

I'm really liking the first 2, but the picture on the 3rd is a bit poor.

Vantec make ones that go from 7-12v with 4 channels or 0-12v with 3 channels and a light controller. I use the 0-12v variety as it gives me more silence, but i dont use the light controller function as it's not very good at keeping the cathodes on "constantly lit" for very long for some reason :S

aye the 3rd is the only pic i could find of it. Looks like a beast though to me

The only thing i dont like about the ASUS' is that they look a wee bit flimsy. Those front bay covers look like they would just pop off with the slightest touch

They also all look like they could hold a water cooling kit unlike the beantech igloo, which is nice

and that nexus controller gets my vote, top notch, i have the 3.5 inch model

i might just get the best performing fans that are black or whatever colour and only have a couple LEDs if i wanted it to light up.

Say i was to cool a 6800gt and a 3500+ a64. what are your thoughts on watercooling v air cooling for someone who would probably give his comp a mild overclock ...perhaps?

I'd say go aircooling if you're not nuts about overclocking. I've managed to get my 6800GT to ultra speeds and above on air, and that 64 bit chip will overclock nicely with a good heatsink, some people have had them at 2.6 on air with stock heatsink!
