    Unhappy PS3 HDMI to DVI problem

    Hello everybody. I bought a HDMI to DVI cable for my PS3 to make it run on my Viewsonic 2025WM LCD monitor.
    It doesn't work on mine, nor does it work on some of the samsung and dell lcd monitors that i have tried. My LCD is not HDCP compliant and the other LCDs that i have tried are HDCP.The cable looks good to me but am i missing some thing here?There is no display even after i reset all my settings while keeping the power button pressed for a few seconds.

    If there is a solution to this then let me hear it. I will be greatly thankful to everybody for their suggestions. I have not tried on any HDTV LCD coz its pointless for me as i plan to keep my LCD and buy a full HD HDTV later this year. So till then i want to at least experience 720p on my LCD. I was very depressed by this and i still am Please tell me what to do.

    I am also ready to discard this monitor if any of you are sure that it will work on any other particular brand.

    Are you sure the adapter works ?

    I have a PS3 -> HDMI -> DVI adapter -> DVI cable -> Dell 2407 working at 1080p.

    I'm guessing something like this:

    They're pretty cheap, only a few quid in Curry's

    iirc they only do the same as what your cable does, but I guess your cable might be missing a couple of pins?

    Thats the DVI end in the pic, so that goes in the monitor, other end should go in the PS3s HDMI port. But unless you can check it on other monitors or other HDMI devices, you cant rule the out the cable being faulty.

    If the dell monitor accepts DVI inputs and the PS3 outputs video through other sources, I would tend to say that those two being faulty are unlikely, leaving the cable as the main suspect.

    There is no display even after i reset all my settings while keeping the power button pressed for a few seconds.
    So that includes you having the original AV lead plugged in as well? pressing the on button for 6 seconds will default the ps3's setting so just ruling out you got that plugged in.

    Allot of people had problems with getting hdmi working first thing - but this was easily fixed by using the standard component cable first to the screen - upgrading with the update- and then switching to HDMI in the settings. I know this worked for allot of people.

    Have you actually tried any other way of connecting your ps3 yet? if not I take it you running the old version which had this problem. Def worth a try. HDMI to DVI may have the same problem. See here for further details > http://forums.hexus.net/showthread.php?t=106173

    I have heard from others that they have also experienced problems with connecting a PS3 to this monitor, you might wanna do a few google searches and see what you come up with. From what I found so far though, the PS3 requires a HDCP monitor/tv if you are using the HDMI port for it to display (and this is even if you are just playing games).

    Thanks to everybody for their help I guess i will have to discard away my LCD for a new screen that has HDCP.
    The sad and frustrating part about all this thing is that companies like SONY and MICROSOFT know that they can make life less complicated for their customers by launching products that are user friendly and versatile, but they just want to F_ _ K_NG profit in everything and dont care a damn about their customers. Well Microsoft did come out with the VGA cable which was a very good move and i hope Sony learns this from them. GOD...life sux
