Tefal Quick Cup Kettle - My Review

I'm amazed that hexus haven't done a review on technology showing this much initiative.



I was more amazed to discover it's been on sale since July, and I only just heard of it today on the Channel 5 Gadget Show.

I'm also amazed that on searching for it on the forum nobody has mentioned it!!!!!
So here is my review of it!
(well sort of: I don't have one, yet, but I've read loads of other reviews)

From reading reviews, mostly customer reviews on amazon, It does leave things to be desired; such as:

• The water doesn't come out boiling... 85-90 degrees, so those who like a cuppa tea made with boiling water might be disappointed. I personally usually leave my drink a couple minutes before I take a sip. Someone has also mentioned that the water isn't hot enough to cook a pot noodle.

• It advertises itself as ready in a quick 3 seconds... but in reality you have to wait for it to slowly fill the cup which takes about 20-25 seconds. But as a reviewer on amazon said; it's not a problem because you can put your cup under, then it takes that long to get the milk out of the fridge.

• It only holds 1.5L

• It's noisy - a youtube video review described it as sounding like a commercial coffee maker and an amazon reviewer said it's not as loud as a normal kettle when it's coming to boiling point.

My conclusion after reading many reviews: It's a great idea, and I'm going to buy one BUT; my mum likes a boiling cup of tea so she probably won't use it. To make it the perfect design it would need to heat the water to 95 degrees, it would poor slightly faster and it could hold more than 1.5L (as a lazy man's gadget, it's a bit disappointing to have to refill it every 6-7 cups).

put me off, my kettle boils 2 cups in 30 seconds.. i think i will stick with that

the other alternative is to simply put 250ml or so of water (via measuring jug) into a normal kettle in the first place.
Save £60 initial cost
same energy saving
boiling water
result!

How much are those tabletop electric water dispensers you can buy? It's something businesses usually have, and although it can take ages to boil in the first place, once it's hot you've got tonnes of boiling water all day, and I'm sure the energy consumption is wwaaaayyyy lower than your average kettle.

electrical water heating is effectively 100% efficient & heating only that which you need is more efficient than heating & storing excess..

It really iritates me when my mum fills a kettle for a single cup ot tea/coffee.

the "Around £30 a year" saving statement is useless if they don't qualify what they are measuring and whre the get their data from.

Right, thread bumpage time.

We have one of these at work. What a pain in the arse it is.

You press the button and it splutters and spits out a "cup" of hot water. Well a "cup" is all well and good, but we have mugs, you you have to do it again, but this time wait for it because a mug isn't twice the size of a cup so you have to stop it when it gets to the right level.

The spluttering and spitting is irritating beyond belief. The counter gets soaked so you have to wipe it up all the time (especially when others in the office don't bother their arse and leave a mess wherever they go).

Granted this is supposed to be for the home and not an office. But it is still a load of rubbish.

We use the sort of devices that ibm's talking about; Zip Heaters|Categories . Personally, I think they're great; they're in relatively constant use, so in practice, in a busy office, they're not consuming any more energy - and probably a lot less - than repeated boiling of kettles. The heated water is in a heavily insulated module in a cupboard underneath, and that just keeps getting warmed up a bit, rather than repeatedly being heated from scratch. They do a domestic range as well, but I'd guess it's pretty pricey - HydroTap.

I purchased the tefal quick cup about 2 years ago and have been pretty impressed, it will pour a cup in about 30 seconds so any more than 2 cups it's probably quicker in a kettle. Filters are expensive and they need changing every couple of months or so. best price is on amazon or yourspares.co.uk

There is a new one out now so my review is based on the original which is still going strong
