    Talking Video Advert in Magazine

My better half got a copy of the latest Marie Claire magazine and it was one of the few that included the D&G video advert, http://www.brandrepublic.com/media/a...e-claire-first

Quite a nice surprise and delight feature and for marketing purposes I suppose it has more impact in a magazine than a printed ad and hits the target audience much better than a TV advert. After playing it a few times I was allowed to "investigate" it.

It comprises of a 97 x 56mm colour screen (that is 114mm diagonal, 4.5"), a similar sized PCB which has a micro-SD card slot with a 128Mb card, a slider switch which contacts when the page is opened, a battery pack, a 30mm flat speaker and a mini-USB. All these components are taped to in between 2 pages which are stuck together.

I have not worked out what the USB port is for, it does not appear to charge the battery and does not allow access to the micro-SD card. Putting the micro-SD in a separate reader shows the advert video is stored as a mjp format. I've googled this and not found much out about it, even VLC can do nothing with it. I tried putting a small mpg on the card but it doesn't play, so the whole device may be locked to a proprietary format.

I could post a picture if anyone is interested. I'm not sure what to do with it now! Any ideas?

Video/audio in a magazine? Sounds sort of annoying to me.

Just imagine sitting on a bus/train having to cover up the light sensor with one hand just so you can read an article on the opposite page in peace.

Sounds pretty fun to me. I suspect this is the way of the future with moving media being so prevalent.
I'd certainly like to see a picture. I wonder if it can be hacked to play other files?

Only in about 1000 copies of the mag - but it shows how cheap electronics is getting.
