I previously asked this question here, you may want to check the responses I got to that:

Ok thanks
They do type rather nicely, feel very tactile... but i find them extremely irritating when it comes to noise... silent mechanical keyboards, those i love
Got my first one just over a year ago. It's very solid and incredibly heavy for a keyboard, it never moves on the desk! It's got the Cherry Blue switches which were a big shock initially, they're SOOOOO loud! If i'm typing on my PC everyone in the house knows.
I would say that they are worth it, but that is my preference... Your mileage may vary.. I'd recommend getting a switch sampler before getting one to see what colour switch you prefer.. Saves you wasting money on something you may not be entirely happy with.
I've been considering getting a mechanical keyboard as my G15 is finally giving up the ghost. Based on what I've read I'll probably get a Corsair K95 in either red or brown. I've ordered a key sampler from Amazon (~£10+£6 p&p), honestly I hope I prefer red so I can order the version without the love bat'leth, but if brown it is then so be it.
I think they are worth every penny. Although they can be quiet loud some of them but this is only disadvantage to some as they last long time compare to membrane ones.
why bother with expensive boards when you can pick up a cheap wireless board and mouse for 12 quid .
Or £8 for a wired board.
You are only going spill your pop on it.
Audi! give me a Vauxhaul any day.
I'm also looking for one as well. They seem like worthy upgrades but the noise does get on my nerves a bit.
It's personal preference. One approach is "buy cheap, buy often". Another is "buy quality, but only once".
And a third option is for any significant amounts of typing, Dragon Dictate.
I prefer the tactile feedback of mechanical (and Dragon), but then, I'm old school.
The biggest plus for me was a very surprising and fortuitous side-effect of their construct......
I tend to occasionally spill drinks at my desk......9 times out of ten, it goes in the keyboard, killing it. So far, my mechanical keyboard has been filled with various beverages around 5 or 6 times.......no, it doesn't work well while it's wet but it does go back to being perfect once it has dried

I'd say they are. They're much more comfortable. But I think it depends on how much typing you do. If you're just using your computer to browse the internet or gaming then it might be harder to justify spending that much money on one. Also, if you've never liked the way the keyboards you've used felt then it's good reason to check one out. The noise irritated me a bit like others here but I eventually got used to it.
Try one out in a store if you can, or a friend's.
