    How do I Wire Up A Spectrum Analyser To Hi-Fi

    Been putting together a Hi-Fi separates system, Turn Table, CD, Tape Deck and Amp.

    I seen spectrum analysers on ebay of the LED kind like THIS

    They all use a 3.5mm input jack. I know I could say plug this into the front of my amp in the headphone socket, but this then mute all the audio. Some have a output as well but that would not be suitable to sending to the speakers.

    On the Amp there is dual output, I am only using one pair of speakers at this time, most of the stuff I listen to is still in MONO.

    Could I use the speaker output as the input? I don't want to overdrive the LED panel. Been looking around the web for answers but not with any luck.

    Does anyone have one set up or an insight into how to do it?

    You certainly can use the other speaker output as an input for that. I'd want to put a voltage divider in-line though, to make sure the input voltage isn't too high.

    The way that circuit looks designed to be used however, is inline with the input, i.e. it has an input that is used for the analysis and then the signal is passed straight on to the output. If your phono has to go into a pre-amp, you won't be able to run it through this analyser. The others should be able to run straight through the analyser and into the amplifier.

    Ten minute job if you've got some resistors lying around;

    Five minutes if you just do the one mono channel

    Lucky the Amp has a phono input.

    Does your amp not have "tape" connectors? Tape out should mirror whatever is being listened to so you can record it, but at nice 1V line out levels.

    It has two, happy days. I also had the same advice off a guy on youtube. All so simple when you know.
