    Re: iPad or Kindle?

If you're just using it as an E-reader I'd suggest a Kindle anyday, it's screen doesn't seem to tire my eyes when reading like an LCD does, which when reading for extended periods can make a huge difference

I've found the Kindle to be much better in direct sunlight as well, definitely something else to consider.

    Re: iPad or Kindle?

I consider the iPad to be more of a multipurpose device, so if e-reading is all you're looking for, I'd also recommend the Kindle. Though for a multipurpose device, I'd much prefer something like a Nexus 9 if you aren't tied to Apple's ecosystem.

Free Kindle app on phone - Books with you all the time, whether in a short bus queue or long wait at a hospital.
Other apps available too for anything the Kindle won't handle.

    Re: iPad or Kindle?

I went for the Kobo so that I could easily add books from different sources. Sure, i'm locked out of Kindle stuff but most books im interested in are available from other sources.

    Re: iPad or Kindle?

I did have a Nook that I unlocked to turn it in to an eink android tablet, this allows a wide range of e-reader android apps to be added, including Kindle. Unfortunately the display has just died so back to Kindle and Calibre to handle the conversion.
