I know I've said this before but it's the same deal with cables. You can get e.g. HDMI/USB/PC internal cables online far cheaper than what a lot of high-street shops ask and they'll achieve exactly the same thing at the end of the day, but you also have to be extremely careful as there are an awful lot of horrible quality cables which will cause loose connections, failed/corrupted transfers/very low speed charging, etc and it can be extremely hard to tell them apart from legit cables.
Online marketplaces like ebay are seemingly full of fake rubbish which can be hard to tell apart regardless of subject knowledge, and a lot of it so cheap most people won't bother returning it, or buy fake branded stuff and it tarnishes the reputation of the brand. And another annoying thing about ebay vs sites like Amazon is there is no way to write reviews for products so you never know what you're buying and nor can you warn future buyers.
What about all the buyers who might not know they've been conned? They might only fill a drive with a few photos and when one gets corrupted they might not think to blame the drive. They're not being protected at all. And TBH I'd be surprised if that didn't describe the vast majority of fake good transactions.
I never risked buying memory cards from ebay. Dont want to be frustrated about a fake with ebay returns. Its worst when it does happen
Never even knew about it, nice post, will go test all my drives with the h2testw program as I've ordered at least a couple from eBay for sure.
