Does anyone on here use a Roku media player?

I'm thinking about buying a Roku media player in order to watch catchup TV, access media from NAS box, & watch Twitch streams on my TV. I just wondered whether anyone on here has a Roku already, & what their thoughts were about it?

Am I right in thinking that although the current Rokus support wireless the remote, they can also accept IR remote codes too? It's just that I have a learning IR remote, so I need IR functionality.

I'm also curious to know whether the Twitch.tv app is currently working, since twitch recently swapped over from Flash to HTML5 video?

If you ditch the twitch requirement, just buy a now tv box for a tenna. (it's a roku 2 in disguise)

Sideload on plex and you are good to go.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I don't think the Now TV box supports DLNA access? I don't use Plex myself...

DNLA is a mare with crappy CODEC standards.

A device can be DNLA and not even support anything other than mpeg2 :O

You might want to look at a Raspberry Pi 2 running Kodi, it should do all you want.

Do you use the twitch app? I'm just curious about how good a viewing experience it is?

The possibilities with Kodi are practically endless, it does do all you ask but not out of the box, it does require a little reading and some time.

IR remote support is out of the box, you'd have to install a web browser although I've personally not used a web browser with Kodi so I can't comment on the experience but they are definitely available.

I've used a Now TV box, a WDTV box, a Boxee Box (a bit dated now) and I've always personally gone back to the Pi 2 with openelec (Kodi) as I can get what I want all the time from a media perspective and the community is great!
