    Washing Machine, Bosch, 2 Models

Looking for some help picking between two Bosch models :

The below model features a tft panel, home connect and stainmaster.

    http://www.bosch-home.co.uk/products...AYH8790GB.html

The below model features a LCD panel, home connect and Bosch's I-Dos system that automatically adds less conditoner to save money.

    http://www.bosch-home.co.uk/products...AWH8660GB.html

I can get both for around the £500 mark after trade ins etc, they both seem very similar with the difference being the stainmaster v I-Dos from what I can tell.

Any suggestions welcome or personal reviews.

    Thanks Mike

Re: Washing Machine, Bosch, 2 Models

I save on conditioner by not using it.

Go for a large drum and high spin speeds. TFT vs LCD makes not a jot of difference to the washing performance, and at the end of the day, that's what you are buying it for.

Washing machines that vary water useage with load are useful, as are machines with timers if you have off peak electricity, or solar panels and you want to run the machine when the sun is shining (and you might be out)

As for programmes, less is more IMHO. My machine has 12, I use the same one 99% of the time, varying the temperature according to the items.

YMMV if you have a family with small children, but I think the same basic principles apply.

The two washing machines you linked to have 1400RPM spins, this cheaper one does 1600RPM:

It isn't just spin speed though, drum diameter matters too. A large drum rotating at a lower speed may dry clothes just as well as a small drum spinning at a higher speed.

The cheaper one actually ends up more expensive due to the lower trade in value, i did look at some of the others you posted such as the Mieles but they are far outside my price point, Ive currently got a Samsung model which i have not been overly impressed with, i have to pull it to bits about every 3-6 months and clean everything out which I'm pretty much fed up of now.

The other one i looked at was a panasonic you seem to get a lot for you money but I'm struggling to find reviews http://www.panasonic.com/uk/consumer...168zs1wgb.html

We stopped using conditioner in our Bosch, it was gumming things up for little if any benefit.

Yep been advised by a washing machine repair man not to use conditioner in our AEG and to use less than recommended liquid detergent as it gums everything, and especially the waste water pipe, up. Unfortunately the wife wont listen and continues to keep putting insane quantities in.

Recently replaced our old machine with an AEG washer and Beko dryer. Did alot research at the time and concluded that Bosch or AEG/John Lewis were the ones to go for. Based on price and reliability/feedback. Panasonic's, LG's & Samsung's seem to break a lot despite long warranties and have loads of features that you just don't use. Also Miele are not the solid buys that they used to be and the quality isn't there anymore. I.e they're not designed to have every part replaceable like they used to be and their standard warranties now reflect this.

Re: Washing Machine, Bosch, 2 Models

We've had an LG one for a while (5+ Years), and not had any problem with it, other than a leak last year, which after taking the rubber seal off the door and drum (at the wife's insistence), turned out to be a dodgy seal on the powder drawer, sorted with a £10 order from eSpares. Getting the seals back on the drum was not much fun though. Unless you buy the proper tool for £60, you're basically wrestling with a steel hula hoop. Frustrating is not the word. Especially when there was no need to take them off in the first place.
But anyway, it's been a good performer, although as mentioned earlier, it has a load of functions we don't use. One that we do use is the steam function, very handy for refreshing clothes that would need to go to a dry cleaner's.

Do a service wash periodically to solve that problem. If there is no service wash, just do the highest temperature wash with nothing in it.
