Another 4gb Vista 32 question
**** Edited to say - Sorry think I posted this in wrong forum *********
Hi all, I am about to buy a brand new system and at the moment am going for a Q6600, 8800Gtx 768Mb graphics, 4GB (4 x 1gb 800mhz) Ram, ASUS P5K-E motherboard. I have read about the problems with 4Gb and x32 Vista, but as I play a lot of games (older ones I already have), I am still tempted by the 32 bit version. So my question is simply; "Even with the given limitations of 4Gb Ram and Vista 32, will it still be more beneficial having 4Gb than 2Gb ram or even 3Gb Ram (though most manufacturers I have looked at only seelm to offer 2 or 4gb)?" My thoughts primarily are that by having the extar RAM I should still see some performance gain, plus by if I choose to later upgrade to x64 Vista, I would see another improvement. |

Re: Another 4gb Vista 32 question
I am currently running 4gb in my gamer on 32 bit XP. IMO, you will benefit from the extra 1gb or of memory even if the system does not use all 4gb. My system feels "smoother" and some things work much better, such as tabbing in and out of a game to do other tasks.

Re: Another 4gb Vista 32 question
yeah i built a pc a few weeks ago and the buyer wanted 4Gb installed but had 32bit vista installed for now. Seemed to run very smooth and it saw it as 3.25Gb of memory

Re: Another 4gb Vista 32 question
yes the only downside is all of it won't be in use. Other than that you'll have the max memory you can on 32bit in dual channel. It's all good.

Re: Another 4gb Vista 32 question
I have a vista x64 with 6GB RAM and a vista x32 on 4 GB RAM, the vista 32bit actually sees around 3710 MB's of RAM, so for me going 64 bit is not worth it for another 300MB RAM.

Re: Another 4gb Vista 32 question
It seems a lot of people think the same way and are going to wait at least until SP-1 for Vista is out.
