Brand new computer keeps freezing in games, might be due to ram(not sure)

New computer randomly freezes while in games.
I recently bought a new barebone computer from tigerdirect (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...=ITD&body=MAIN), and built it myself, with these specs:

    ----------------------------------------

Case: CoolerMaster NV690 nVIDIA Edition ATX Mid-Tower Case
Motherboard: XFX nForce 750a Motherboard - NVIDIA 750a SLI, Socket AM2/AM2+, ATX, Audio, Video, HSMI, DVI, PCI Express 2.0, Gigabit LAN. S/PDIF, USB 2.0, eSATA, RAID
    Video Card: XFX GF 9600GSO 580M 768MB DDR2 DUAL DVI TV PCI-E
    Ram: 4 gigs - Corsair XMS2-6400 Dual Channel TWINX 4096MB PC6400 DDR2 800MHz Memory (2 x 2048MB)
    CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 5800+ 3.0 GHz Processor ADA5800IAA5DO
    HDD: Hitachi Deskstar P7K500 500GB Hard Drive - 7200, 16MB, SATA-300, OEM
Power Supply: Ultra LSP750 750-Watt Power Supply
and my own CPU fan and DVD Drive
CPU Fan: Coolermaster CM Sphere - (http://www.coolermaster-usa.com/prod...roduct_id=2732)
Thermal Grease: Arctic Silver 5 (about a year/2 years old, been kept in the fridge)
CD/DVD Drive: (not sure what model) LG Dual Layer CD/DVD burner/reader[sata]
OS: Currently Windows XP Professional SP3, but also encountered same problem in Windows XP Professional x64 SP3.

    ----------------------------------------

Ok, so here is the deal. I bought this computer as a major upgrade from my last gaming computer, and built it up, made sure everything was plugged in, and everything was going good. I first installed Windows XP pro 64 bit, and had it at SP3, then I installed World of Warcraft and Counter-Strike: Source. After playing them for a little bit, my computer would randomly completely freeze up, with absolutely no response, forcing me to manually restart it with the button.

I then thought maybe it was because of the 64 bit version of windows that was causing that, so I went out and bought Windows XP Professional 32 bit, and installed that, along with SP3. After installing the same 2 games again, I would still get these random freezes from playing the games.

All my drivers are up to date, and I have no problems in device manager, so I honestly have no idea what to do anymore. These crashes have only occured when playing games, at max graphics, and lowest graphics. All my temperatures have been checked with speedfan and everest, and they are all saying that my temperatures are good, and close to being lower than average(except AUX, which I'm not sure what that is)

My fans are running at full speed(1 cpu fan, 3 case fans), and these are my temps(idle then load):

    CPU: 29 C - 35 C
    GPU: 45 C - 48 C
    System: 22 C - 22 C
    HDD: 35 C - 35 C
    Core 1: 15 C - 21 C
    Core 2: 45 C - 47 C
    AUX(?): 49 C - 50 C

Any help with my freezing problem would be greatly, greatly appreciated, as I want to use this new computer to the fullest, without worry of freezing, and having to always restart.

Note: I have an AMI Bios, and when I turn on the computer, I get 3 what seem like fast beeps, apparently meaning my ram is bad, so I did a memtest on both individual sticks of ram, with no errors, and the other closest thing would be a video card problem, but when I load it without my external video card, it still beeps, and when I try each stick on their own, they beep too... so I'm completely lost with this matter now.

GPU temps sounds like the issue.
Almost certainly a heat problem somewhere.......why are you posting in the Corsair section btw?

Have you checked the bios settings for memory and made sure it is set to the correct voltage and timings? A lot of motherboards seem to default to 1.8v which maybe ok to get the system to boot but not necessarily be stable.

Worth a check if only to rule it out.

I seriously doubt that if that was the case, the PC would freeze.

    Anything memory usually BSOD's

Yeah maybe, but the fact it locks solid means it could be basically anything and it only takes a few seconds to check, and it wouldn't be the first time i have heard that cause instability.

For the record looking at his GPU temperatures (or any of the reported temperatures) i seriously doubt its that but hey i didn't feel it necessary to say so.

    No need to get touchy

And just maybe the sensor calibration is off.

I don't think it's temperature that's the problem, but I posted in the corsair section, because I was led to believe it is my ram, which is corsair XMS2-6400.. but now I read some other things online, and I think it might be related to my processor and World of Warcraft not mixing, or there being some hotfix or something.. I was playing Left4Dead for hours with no freeze on high graphics, with no freezing also... So i'm kind of completely lost here now..

EDIT: Just froze in Left 4 dead, so not just a problem with WoW anymore..

List your complete part number from the stickers on the memory kit. Also, list ALL settings you have made in the BIOS for RAM, CPU, and voltages.

Both sticks are CM2X2048-6400C5 models. Also, I have not touched anything in the Bios, except looking to see if the DRAM is at 1.9v, which it is.

not true. I have seen system hard lock, loop sound and even have corrupt displays and thought it was the graphics card. It was the memory in the end.

If you have not already done so, clear the BIOS. Then, with a single module, set the timings manually and the voltage to 1.9v. Then test each individual module for 3-5 passes each using Memtest.

    I said usually....not definitely

A hard lock is not common with hard lock issues. BSOD or reboot are the mostcommon symptoms.

To be honest here, I'm not too sure how to set the timings manually. i think I found the right thing in the bios, but there are so many things there, I don't even know where to start.

Have a look at your manual. In the BIOS section, it tells you how to adjust the various BIOS parameters. If you are not comfortable with this, contact XFX Technical Support.

hey waffles, did you ever get your freezing problem fixed? Because coincidentally enough, we both have the same problem. I have the same mem sticks and the same exact vid card, and I've been having the same problem for almost a couple months with it freezing on games like L4D and COD2

Re: Brand new computer keeps freezing in games, might be due to ram(not sure)

Hey everyone. I am having the same problem as waffles and Bauer. The only thing is that I have a different setup from them.
    • PSU: Ultra LSP750 750-Watt Power Supply
    • MAINBOARD: XFX nForce 750i SLI Extreme Motherboard
    • CPUFAN: Thermaltake / V1 / Multi-Socket LGA1366 Core i7/775/AM2/939/754 / Copper / CPU Cooler
    • GPU: XFX GeForce GTX 260 Video Card - 896MB GDDR3, PCI Express 2.0 x16
    • CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9400 Processor BX80580Q9400 - 2.66GHz, 6MB Cache, 1333MHz FSB
    • RAM: Corsair Dual Channel TWINX 4096MB PC6400 DDR2 800MHz Memory (2 x 2048MB)
    • HDD: WD Caviar Green 1TB 32MB/SATA-3G

As you can see we both have a motherboard and GFX from XFX (which has the worst support). Now I dont think those are the problems. I believe we all have the same ****ty PSU. Ideas?

Hey Bauer do you have the Ultra LSP750 750-Watt Power Supply??
