    i7 4770K unlocked CPU?

I have an i7 4770K CPU which I believe is unlocked, I have at one time seen the multiplier allowing an increase in the MSI Command Center. I have a Z87L ITX Motherboard. Just wondered if anyone knew why this seems to be locked at x35 - x39 ratio, I have checked all Bios settings and even when in OC settings it does not allow for the multiplier to be changed. Any help would be great!

Looked for a BIOS update? Sure you have a 4770K? It shouldn't be locked. Check that you're not using an auto-OC mode and that you are manually changing things in BIOS.

Hi, thank you that is a good suggestion and I hadn't checked that. The BIOS is upto date. It says it has Version 2.4 installed but on the MSI website the current version is 1.5? They do have around the same release date of this month. But guess it is up to date. Wondering if it could be the board, but as it has the option to change the ratio but it doesn't let you alter it which confuses me! Here is the board: http://us.msi.com/product/mb/Z87I.html#/?div=Overview I didn't go for a higher model as couldn't really see the benefit in going to a better model as the specs seemed the same.

I'm at work so can't look through the manuel.

You're looking to raise the boost multiplier and not the base clock multiplier.

    Re: i7 4770K unlocked CPU?

Go into the BIOS on the OC tab, right at the bottom you'll see "CPU features" or "Advanced CPU features" or something similar. Where you can enable C states etc. At the bottom you can configure the maximum multiplier each CPU will clock to.

Just change those you'll have to set each CPU core's maximum multiplier. If you have the enhanced turbo feature enabled it'll whack up to the maximum multiplier set.

Great, thank you will try that later! What are a safe vCore for these chips? At idle I am currently on 30oC and Load 48oC using a 3rd party air cooler.

    Hi,

I have tried the 'CPU Features' but the CPU Limit is set to Auto and can not be altered for some reason?

    Anymore help would be great.

    Re: i7 4770K unlocked CPU?

On my Gaming MSi board there are BIOS options for standard, normal and OC Genie modes that provide different access to options. Check if yours has something similar and try the different options in each mode, might find one of the modes doesn't allow you to alter the CPU multiplier.

    Re: i7 4770K unlocked CPU?

Your i7 ends with a K, so the CPU should be 'unlocked'. If you have any issues with the ratios, refer to your motherboard manual or vendor.
