Intel released schedule for 2014 leaked - no Broadwell??

I thought it would appear on mobile this year:

Then, in August, Intel will launch an update to its desktop Haswell line that will use X99 chipset and will support DDR4 memory.
AMD, prepare your new platforms - DDR4 is about to go consumer Looks like that's the Haswell-E-based lineup, so it's derived from server chips, but if Intel is about to push DDR4 into its high end consumer desktop space I doubt AMD will want to be far behind...

It probably makes a lot of business sense for AMD to wait it out until DDR4 has some market share TBH. Intel can introduce it and pull down prices with their weight, whereas AMD might have a hard time selling a DDR4-only platform with no existing market for it.

Re: Intel released schedule for 2014 leaked - no Broadwell??

This is why I've pulled the trigger on a memory upgrade, I don't think DDR3 is going to get any cheaper with the intended consumer release of DDR4.

Considering AMD have not released a new top end CPU for what seems like years I doubt they will be far behind. Leaving the new processor design for their APUs might of been a good bet for them in the short term but I don't think they are better off without a flagship CPU in their line-up. They have managed to get back into the mix with GPUs, they need to do the same with CPUs now and I am hoping they have a plan with DDR4 being a major part of it.

Haswell-E, X99, DDR4. I could do that. I'm mostly into workstation-class mobos and CPUs anyway, considering ECC is a must-have feature for me.

At first, I thought "Great, a non bandwidth starved GCN based IGP"
Then I had a thought. How much more bandwidth can DDR4 actually have over DDR3?

The R9 280X has around 300GB/Sec bandwidth for 2048 Cores or around 146MB/Sec/Core whilst the A10 7850K has a maximum supported bandwidth of 34GB/Sec with 512 Cores or around 66MB/sec.
As we have seen, as you feed it more bandwidth, Kaveri keeps getting faster like every previous AMD APU.
2 Channel DDR4 looks unlikely to increase bandwidth enough to keep those GCN cores fed, even with the internal efficiencies of the APU doing less shifting around of data due to the shared memory.
I still think we'll see on module L4 cache like crystalwell from AMD for their next APU's. Hopefully next year.
With enough bandwidth, their top APU may be similar in performance to my 6870. If that happens, I doubt I'll be buying graphics cards again.

After that, all AMD need to do is to convince OEM's to use their APU's in laptops with premium other components rather that the cheapo crap that their PU's tend to come with right now.
