    4770k vs "Devil's Canyon" 4970

I've had my new MSI z97 GAMING 7 motherboard sat in it's box for a few weeks now, and I have just placed my order for 8GB of Corsair Vengeance RAM. Next up is the CPU, and for months now I've been set on the i7-4770k as my solid choice.
However after reading the new devil's canyons are due on or around the 20th, is it worth splashing out the extra £20 and pocketing one of these new chips? I was originally going to buy the MSI z87 G45 board, but settled for the new z97 to "future proof" myself, so i am just wondering if it would be beneficial to me to do the same with the CPU!

As a note, I have no idea when it comes to overclocking my components, so OC is out of the question here

    Cheers guys

Unless you can find a 4770K at a heavily discounted price to clear stock before the 4970K arrives, I would say it's worth going for the 4970K. You basically get a guaranteed 'overclock' of 500Mhz over the 4770K, & if you're lucky & get a good CPU, possibly a bit more on top. Hopefully, load temps will be a bit lower too.

If you don't plan on overclocking, although I have no idea why you wouldn't since you forked out for an MSI Z97 motherboard, then get a 4970*K* It will be well worth the money for the extra frequency.

Well, the difference is not that huge, so why not go with the most recent version and future-proof the machine?

    Re: 4770k vs "Devil's Canyon" 4970

Go for the 4790 since it has higher stock speeds - can be overclocked a bit, but not much. If you don't overclock though, you get higher speeds than a stock 4770.

Is it true that newer batches OC a bit better?

Also 4970 is supposed to be cooler due to better thermal interface so it is the clear winner for me.

    Re: 4770k vs "Devil's Canyon" 4970

During the research for the build I have been planning most of the reviews/press seam to agree that the 4970K runs cooler than the 4770K, however most people seam underwhelmed with the over clocking however considering its a refresh not a revolution Im not to bothered for the small cost extra ill be going 4970K as the chip runs cooler and already comes with a 500Mhz over clock.

    I too am using a 4790k.

Better TIM than a 4770k and pretty impressive stock clocks
