    but what I mean is.... it's not actually hot.

    not relavant to normal on that kind of CPU

    55 degrees for a Q6600 - I used to hit 60 degrees easy with mine - even more so in summer when running mine at 450 x 8 instead of 266 x 9 on the speed settings.

    If you have the G0 stepping of the Q6600 this as a max temp limit of 71 degrees as shown Here

    As long as its below this value - you ain't got anything to worry about at all really

    Or after all that , It might just be a duff thermocouple.

    Just an update..I bought a new heatsink and the problem of my pc heating over 60'c and freezing or restarting has disapeared, so something has fixed it
