Sesame Bites
Sesame Bites
Serves: 4 Prep time: 15mins Cooking time: 15mins Ingredients 1 large egg 100g caster sugar 1 tbsp sesame oil 175g plain flour 1 tsp baking powder 4 tbsp toasted sesame seeds 1 tbsp icing sugar to dust oil for deep frying Method In a large bowl, mix together the egg, caster sugar, sesame oil and 1 tbsp cold water. Sift in the flour and baking powder and add the sesame seeds. Mix together to form a dough. Heat the oil for deep frying to 180°C/350°F or until a cube of bread browns in 30 seconds. Drop heaped teaspoonfuls of the dough into the hot oil, 8 at a time and deep fry for 4-5 minutes until golden and drain on kitchen paper. You should make 16 in total. Make sure the oil doesn't overheat, otherwise the sesame bites will brown too quickly and remain uncooked in the centre. Serve whilst still hot, dusted with icing sugar, accompanied with sliced star fruit and wedges of kiwi fruit. |
