    Cheapo 2560x1440 27"

    Hi,

Just bought a new MacBook Air. Anyone got any good recommendations for Ebay sellers (or anyone else) for the cheap Korean 2560x1440 27" panels? I know I need that ridiculously expensive dual DVI convertor, but there are a load of different sellers on Ebay and I was curious if anyone had anything good to say about any of them?

Cheapo is a relative term, but Overclockers are known for their stock, eg: Hazro HZ27WB 10-Bit 27" Widescreen Professional Monitor - Black

There is a massive thread on Overclockers.net about recent Korean models and their respective eBay sellers http://www.overclock.net/t/1384767/o...ub-qnix-x-star

Personally I got my Qnix from Dreamseller and my Catleap from 120hz.net (Greensum).

Sellers Hulustar and excellentcastle appear to be getting good reviews, dreamseller not so much.

I'm quite tempted by one of these panels. I was going to get myself a Dell U2713HM in a month or so but may take the risk on one of these (after plenty of research )

    Re: Cheapo 2560x1440 27"

Just wanted to chime in with my experience.

I bought a Crossover 27Q from BCC in late May last year. After around 11 months of operation (around 8 hours average per day) the screen started flickering a bit and sometimes the "image" would "turn off" leaving the monitor on with no backlight - i.e. just a black screen but with the monitor with the normal power on LED showing that it's receiving signal.

I contacted BCC and whilst initial responses were slightly slow, up to 72 hours for a response, as soon as he realised it was the LED driver board (or inverter board as he called it) was the problem, he managed to ship one out to me really fast and it got here in 72 hours from South Korea excluding the bank holiday weekend. Was quite easy to take apart the monitor and replace the LED driver board. He didn't charge me anything for the replacement but he did ask for me to send back the faulty board, in which I did via the cheapest Airmail option which was around £3 or something.

I'm loving the look of the new Crossover Black Tune 2735AMG but the Crossover 27Q is good enough for a budget student like me haha.

Wowser, I assume taking it apart to repair yourself would invalidate your warranty entirely? Not to mention potentially dangerous...

    Re: Cheapo 2560x1440 27"

Seems to be the deal with the majority of these cheapys. Most of the people that are 100% happy with their screens on those other forums have had to take it apart for one reason for another (loose screen, taping to stop bleeding, replacing a dodgy board, swapping LEDS or out right moving into a different case). What you get out of a bit of work is a 27inch PLS Screen running at 2560x1440 @ ~120Hz for less than £300.

I'm still a bit undecided. I'm all for a bit of a bodge but I'm still leaning to paying the £120 more and going for the U2713HM instead.

    Re: Cheapo 2560x1440 27"

When I bought it myself it was quite a bit cheaper, £230 (+£11 for customs) so the saving was definitely worth it.

Taking it apart is actually quite easy, I made a little "how to" here.

It really wasn't difficult and I didn't follow any guides, I just had to be careful the first time opening it up as I didn't know what to expect. I do agree that quite a few people have had problems with their monitors though but it's hard to estimate how many have problems compared to how many are bought.

    Exclamation Re: Cheapo 2560x1440 27"

Ja, I didn't *have* to take either of mine apart, but the Yamasaki's stand is so horrendously wibbly wobbly that I felt I had to (you need to take the whole back off to get to the VESA mount grr)...

The Qnix is fine as it is; loosening the bottom centre screws reduces some BLB if you have some there tho.

Don't expect Dell grade quality from these designs; if you're lucky enough to get a decent panel (and it's hard to judge the odds of doing so), you'll have an outstandingly gorgeous display that can't be matched by any 'conventional' brand. If not however, the RMA and support issues will most likely be a nitemare.

If you're sitting on the fence, I'd say go with your head and buy local/expensive just for the peace of mind...

    Re: Cheapo 2560x1440 27"

I wanted to upgrade to a 2560x1440 monitor on the build I can currently doing (buying bits when on offer ) I decided after a lot of research and opinions I was going to save up and go for the dell. I know its more money but hear only good things.

I'd have no issue with doing any of that, as long as it continued to work fine for a good few years.

For a 2560x1440 resoultion monitor I would recommend the Eizo ev2736w, it is one of the few IPS monitors with nearly no IPS glow and of course you get the Eizo build quality.

Why are these not more widely available? Surely there is big demand for 1440p and higher refresh rates.
