Re: Asus Swift ROG PG278Q monitor available for Pre-order on Scan

I did order a Corsair K70 cherry red from Scan yesterday since I wanted one and it will match this monitor nicely. If anything goes wrong with that I can sort it out directly through corsair, same as with a few issues I had with my Corsair 540 case I bought from Scan.

On the other hand with this monitor, its too expensive to take any chances, and due to being Asus, all warranty is handled through where you bought it according to what they told me before, and I wont take any chances with it through Scan. Then if it turns out not to be as good as expected when I get it, OCUK wont kick up any fuss if I decide to use the 14 day satisfaction guarantee, Scan on the other hand would likely refuse unless I spend ages arguing and wasting time with them.

    Well, it's about scan.. ish.

TBH I ordered from OCUK - my experience(s) with scan in the past cost me a lot more than 60 quid. Never had a problem with them otherwise but their RMA process was/is an awful experience to go through. I wouldn't of touched OCUK a while back but they've transformed since they were taken over and a recent RMA experience with them was quite exceptional in the amount of effort they put in to make it right. I will happily put both my personal and professional orders through a company that values the customer when you get to after sales. We have choices as a consumer thankfully.

YMMV but I voted with my feet and wallet. No problem if you feel otherwise - it's a personal choice.

Or at least it seems to have turned in to a thread that's drifted in that direction, I originally posted about the monitor, and even said, when it was suggested that people have issues with scan, that I don't want to re-open wounds, I just wanted to know where they were ordering from in case they had found a place that was offering a better deal.

I'd like to respectfully request that any further posts are kept to discussing the monitor, specs, features, reviews etc... and pre-ordering it. I don't think talking about customer service issues or experiences with any suppliers are adding anything of value to this thread. If that's ok with everyone.

My eyes are popping at that price. Think I'll stick with 1080p another couple of years...

Tiny Tom said that he would pick 2560x1440 over 4k for gaming and that he would pick the PG278Q over any other 1440p monitor.

I agree that 4K is some way off catching on if ever. 1440 seems the way to go

There's a review on the OC 3d website, but I can't post it on here, it gets filtered out, but it got a Performance rating, if I'm allowed to share that information on here.

Very positive review too - https://tinyurl.com/ls4gnrr

The fears about it being 'only' TN seem unfounded..

Thanks for sorting out the link.

I did think that both the article and video fell way short of being a proper review, so while both were positive about the monitor, they did lack a certain amount of detail with regards to technical performance and instead concentrated on how much Tom liked the monitor.

I agree - but then that's half the problem - even it's technically good it may still be subjective as to whether you like it or not. That said, it's good that we're not seeing people say it's crappy off the bat (which probably was more my worry as someone who's ordered one) in a World where it's pretty much IPS or nothing to quite a lot of folk!

Re: Asus Swift ROG PG278Q monitor available for Pre-order on Scan

I've never had a problem with Scan, although I haven't had to RMA anything in a very long time with them.

I will say that Overclockers have just given me superb service though: RMA'd a monitor for a refund with no fuss, so I immediately "reinvested" the money with them on an equally expensive graphics card. A very good retailer, and unlike some they use a great courier too (DPD) which is at least as important!

This monitor does look great. I know we're supposed to be edging towards 4K, and the prices are similar, but for users like me with a single upper-but-not-quite-ultimate gfx card it just doesn't seem to be the right time. 2560x1440 looks great in games, and beyond that I'd much rather have smoother movement than the detail of 4k, particularly if that detail's getting lost as the card and panel attempt to keep up with the action. I'll certainly consider this monitor after the full range of Maxwell cards is out.

Re: Asus Swift ROG PG278Q monitor available for Pre-order on Scan

As an update - i've now owned this panel for two weeks (although not sourced from scan as I said) and it's bloody brilliant.

The only downside I can find with it is if I stand up then I see the classic TN shift.

    And that's it.

Are the colours OK? Yup, no worries - this isn't a standard TN by any means. My IPS is not missed
How's the fast refresh rate? I'm staggered how much I've noticed the difference - it just feels so 'reactive' compared to my old panel.
But how are your cards coping? Pretty well - I'm still on stock clocks but when I don't hit the magic 120/144fps...
...then there's gsync? Hoooo yus! I'm sold on it - I hate tearing but it's gone, and all without the noticable lag of vsync. It's wonderful.
And how's the resolution step up? Again, a big shock - turning AA off is now an option. At worst I have some very light AA on.
Build quality? It's a loverly bit of kit - it comes in a massssive box pre-assembled (!) and oozes quality. I'm a big kid and I love the evil glowing ring on the base - it's quite nice seeing it glowing at night as I walk past my office

    Stupid money? Yup.
    Regrets? None
