Asus PG278Q ROG - IPS version on the way?

    Hi,

Was speaking to one of the guys from Scan about the http://www.scan.co.uk/products/27-as...-2xusb-30-port

Very much ready to buythis montior but he mentioned that they are meant to be bringing out an IPS version.

Just wondered if anyone else had heard this and if it is worth the wait?

Also read that IPS would not be 144Hz though.

    Thanks.

They might use AHVA+ or PLS, both of which are capable of 120 Hz I believe

Ok, it will be used for gaming so is it worth waiting?

If scan are correct, yes. However I imagine it'd be significantly more. Honestly, I can't see this happening (even though I'd like it to).

Once it gets to 120 Hz, I can't personally tell the difference between it and 144 Hz.

Ok appreciate that, certainly don't fancy paying any more than what the current version is. Think the Asus is really the top monitor for gaming at the moment so will order on Monday, thanks for your help.

I was looking into this today and found this (I have also posted this in another thread, most likely will edit that one out):

    Key Features

    Screen Size: 27"W
    Aspect Ratio: 16:9
    Resolution (max.): 2560x1440
    Pixel Pitch (mm): 0.2331
    Brightness (typ.): 350 cd/m2
    Contrast (typ.): 1000:1
    Viewing Angle: 178/178 degrees (horizontal/vertical)
    Response Time: 12ms, 4ms (GtG)
    Display Colors: 1.07 Billion
    Color Gamut: 100% sRGB
But this is not an IPS screen as we might know one, it uses a new AHVA panel made by AUO, here's a link and here's another.

AHVA - Despite having VA in the acronym, Advanced Hyper-Viewing Angle panel technology from AUO is simply another proprietary panel type (similar to Samsung PLS) with an IPS foundation to achieve wide viewing angles and accurate color reproduction. AHVA panels are not actually using vertical alignment, so they do not exhibit color or gamma shifts commonly found from that panel type.
    Source.
Does that mean that AHVA screens are a development of IPS screens?

Does anyone have any more information on them?

Re: Asus PG278Q ROG - IPS version on the way?

Yes sounds like its very likely. Most people with the Asus say its amazing but people who have had an IPS seem to slate it. I currently have the Asus 27" 3D Vision 2 monitor so wouldn't be comparing it to an IPS, but if a IPS type or AHVA panel is on the way and won't be to much more I'd be tempted. To wait or not to wait :/

On more than a few ocassions I have to buying one of a few different models including the original Asus ROG Swift and the Acer 28" 4k monitor with G-Sync, but somehow I have managed to hold off because of various doubts over what I really want from the screen.

Increasingly I am starting to think about getting a 3440x1440 screen, but even then only once I have seen a screen with exactly all of the features I want, as you'll probably be able to tell by my many posts on the subject, but when I do finally get a monitor I am sure it will be exactly what I want, though I will most likely buy from Amazon just to cover my back in case I still don't like it after all of that.
