    Arrow IPS Panel questions

Hello I am looking at buying a passive 3d tv.

The 50" model I am looking it is not a IPS the 47 and 55" models are IPS?

    This confuses me.

When it comes to passive 3d does the panel matter?
Is IPS better than TN for passive 3d?

IF its not a IPS panels does that automatically mean it is TN?
Thanks so much for any help you can give me.

Before answering your question I thought I'd throw in a little disclaimer in that I am not expert and most likely I am just as confused as you are, however I think I have an answer for this part of your question.

If the 47" and 55" are IPS it is possible that the 50" might be using an IPS screen with AHVA technology, if not it might be using a VA derivative in order to give it better viewing angles as TN panels are not great on viewing angles.

With more information on the brand and models you are looking at people would be able to provide better help, as has already been suggested by Kalniel.

Oh, and welcome to the forums.

Thanks so much for the replies.

I am looking at the 2014 LG LB6500. In the specs for that model number it says IPS (except for 50")
Which confuses me because I don't know why they would use IPS for 47 / 55 inch models and not the 50 inch model???

    Re: IPS Panel questions

LG have the 50LB650V listed on their website as coming with an IPS panel.

Thumbs down Re: IPS Panel questions

Yes I saw that as well, its misleading.

The pdf spec page for this series in the specs says: Ips Panel (excludes 50")

It won't let me post a link to the pdf page but if you go to Sears and enter lglb6500 and then click on spec sheet it will show you.

    Re: IPS Panel questions

Are the 47 and 55 inch TVs 3D? Reason being, I think 3D requires 120Hz (maybe that's just a certain type of 3D) and I don't think IPS offers refresh rates that high. PLS does, and so does AHVA+ .

    Re: IPS Panel questions

    50BV6500?

Because that is listed as IPS:
    http://www.lg.com/ph/tvs/lg-50LB6500

Anyway, I doubt there are any TN panel TVs (at least from the major manufacturers). IPS has gotten a lot of good press, but for video, black contrast and response time VA panels are actually slightly better. Rather suspect that while these TVs mention 120Hz, that there is a caveat and they are not capable of doing 120Hz with PC signals. For use as a monitor other things are also meant to be important like Chroma 4:4:4 and a straight-through path where there is not lag from signal post processing.
