    Re: Considering Ultrawide Monitor

I have 3X Dell 2413U and would like to swap to a 34", but only have dual gtx680 4gb ftw (evga) cards, and worry about them powering it when gaming, also is it still to early to think about buying one, the other questions have to be Curved, IPS, VA or TN panel and should one wait for something faster than 60Hz.

    Re: Considering Ultrawide Monitor

I have the Dell Ultrawide. There has been plenty said about these monitors on the thread so i will keep it short.

Excellent for gaming, average for productivity. Two applications running side by side is quite cramped and nowhere near as nice as having 2 x 1080p screens. 2560x1440 is a better all-rounder.

In an ideal world, I would go for the 34" 1440p ultrawide models, but they are quite a bit more expensive at the moment. The introduction of the curved models does seem to have knocked off £200 from the last time i checked though!

    Re: Considering Ultrawide Monitor

Just received my LG 29EA93-P from Germany (Amazon.de) and I've gotta say I'm pretty happy with it considering I downgraded from a 27" 2560x1440 monitor. Bought it as "Used - Good" but I don't see any dead pixels, no damage or scratches to the screen or anywhere else for that matter. They could have listed it as "Used - Like New" and I wouldn't know. Got it for £235 so I'm pretty happy with it.

I do miss a few things though. First thing I miss is the glossy finish on my old monitor. Personally I prefer a glossy finish but thankfully the antiglare finish on this LG isn't as bad as what Dell and Asus had on their monitors. Second thing I miss is the vertical pixels - 1440 vs 1080 might not sound like much but those 360 extra vertical pixels is exactly 33% more! Final thing I miss is compatibility, it seems most things are designed for 16:9 nowadays and I've had some trouble with the 21:9 aspect ratio but I knew what I was buying into. I knew that watching normal 16:9 content would leave black borders either side. I didn't expect games like FF13/13-2 to be unsupported on 21:9 though.

Now onto the things I do like. The extra inputs are very handy for someone like me who practically never leaves the bedroom and only want one screen for everything. For games that do work on 21:9 (most that I tested do), it feels pretty perfect for me as I feel this width and height is pretty perfect. Sometimes I actually felt my 27" 2560x1440 monitor was simply too big for me. I also love the fact that the bezels are pretty slim. Almost all of the 27" 2560x1440 monitors have stupidly thick bezels, I don't understand why really. They can make 4k 28" monitors with slim bezels so why not 27" 1440p monitors.

The one thing I haven't quite gotten used to yet is the DPI. Things on the 27" 1440p monitor looked quite a bit smaller and sharper, but it was also sometimes tiring to look at it. Things feel pretty big on this monitor and hence not as sharp but it doesn't feel as tiring to look at. Only time will tell how it goes though.

Like Biscuit, my ideal monitor would probably be a 34" 1440p ultrawide monitor. I really like the curved model but they are very expensive. More expensive than my whole PC IIRC haha. One day though... One day...

    So.

    Re: Considering Ultrawide Monitor

Did anyone get lucky enough to try and fathom the difference even between 60hz and 75hz?
reason I ask is because for LCD screens I did, back in the day, and it's night and day....
I honestly think all these 60hz displays need to be shooting at over 120hz for decent PC Per-formance and I'll back that up by saying the 144hz Viewsonic I have now is miles better. mILes.Perhaps as good as the G500 sony screen I had back in the day that was one of the best CRT monitors and fried the viewer ))))))))#
I got this one, spensive sure, but it's a Viewsonic!!! Way before Asus, Benq, Etc.
    hexus trust : n(baby):n(lover):n(sky)|>P(Name)>>nopes

Be Careful on the Internet! I ran and tackled a drive by mining attack today. It's not designed to do anything than provide fake texts (say!)

I've been using my dell with the two side monitors for Microsoft Flight Sim (good old steam sale) and the extra width works great. 290x isn't even struggling with that pixel count either.
