    27" 1080p monitor

Before I go ahead and order a BenQ GW2760HS for around £170 can I ask for your views. My pc is running a R9 285. It is mostly used for Internet browsing and the most demanding game I play is BF4. The monitor being replaced is a very old 24" TN with 5ms response time (has a crack in it). So anything is likely to be an upgrade.

I ruled out a 2560x1440 monitor as unnecessary on the grounds of cost, would stretch the GPU and because my eyesight is not great. I'll happily trade a bit of resolution if i can avoid wearing my glasses There is a lot of choice up to £300. Is it worth spending more?

    Thanks

    Re: 27" 1080p monitor

Since you can buy an IPS 2560x1440 monitor for less than £300, I would think spending that on a 1080p monitor would be a bit too much. But I guess it depends on the brand you like & the features that are important to you. You could for example choose a 'Freesync' compatible monitor (when they come out), since the Tonga GPU in the R9 285 supports variable sync.

That's my dilemma. Is it worth spending near double the money for 2560x1440?

    Re: 27" 1080p monitor

I game in 1080p on an Iiyama ProLite E2773HS with a 780 Lightning and am perfectly happy. There's no game I can't run at higher settings, AFAIK.

However, I do still notice the difference when I go round to friends' and see their setups in 1440p or more. They do all have at least one 780Ti or 980 Strix on custom WCing though and several are just waiting for their Titan Xs (yes, they're getting SLI Titans!!), so I imagine I'll start feeling waaaaaay behind the times soon enough...!

    Re: 27" 1080p monitor

I'm gaming at 1440p using an MSI 970 Gaming 4G. In BF4 I'm using high settings, & getting around 80fps.

Go with a 120hz 1440p if you can!

Unless you're considering updating your GPU, I'd probably stick with 1080p; as you say, the lower resolution on the larger format monitor would be easier on your eyes too.
