I still have a Dell 2407 (The one from like 7+ years ago), and frankly its one of the best purchases I ever made. (Though its my spare monitor these days)

To me the dell Displays I have bought make Dell the 2nd best panel manufacturer. The best IMO is apple but is like 5 times more expensive and really not worth it.

Dell make some of the best monitors you can buy and the high end ones have the colours factory calibrated to near perfection. It's just a shame they don't make proper gaming ones (with 144hz, g-sync etc).

We have around 2000 Dell monitors where I work and I've never seen a dead pixel or nasty backlight bleed on one. The usual fault with them I come across is they just refuse to turn on one morning. But that happens to maybe 1 in 300.

Wouldn't touch their PCs with a barge pole though

I've just spotted this thread even though it is about a month old I thought I would pipe in with my 2 cents worth.

First you have an awesome GPU with that 290X in your rig, it would have no trouble driving a 2560x1440 monitor when gaming, secondly there are an excellent range of FreeSync monitors out there that would take full advantage of your 290X and lastly gaming will get even better when more performance is unlocked in DX12 games. Yes it will cost more, but it will be worth the difference if you can dig deeper and find the funds to cover it.

But glad to read more info/opinions on the Dell .

I was tempted to buy a 2560 x 1440 screen but what sort of stopped me was the latest graphics card round up article I read in CustomPC. I like the bigger buffer of frame rate afforded by using 1920 x 1080 plus maybe the GPU will stay with me longer with that amount of buffer for future games. My last GPU (HD5850) I kept for 4 yrs but perhaps the 290 will be changed before that after learning new buying techniques from haunting HUK!
