Red face Forgive me Hexites for I have sinned!

After recently asking for suggestions on monitor purchase I probably listened to one suggestion (slightly!) out of some given to me, so please forgive me fellow Hexites!

Just unwrapped an Eizo FG2421 and after viewing it running all I can say is OMG!

Re: Forgive me Hexites for I have sinned!

So far had only quick play, I can't wait to have a real session tonight on it .

I was a bit dismissive of if I'd really be able to see / feel the difference of high freq. monitor (this was the suggestion I took on board from other thread ) and I most certainly could!

I had my very old Samsung 2032MW running side by side and moving mouse between the 2 you could see the refresh rate difference.

I then proceeded to setup the user defined profile as per TFTCentral review and fired up GTA IV and could defo see lack of motion blur compared with having played it on the 2032MW (TN) / Panasonic TX-P42GT30b (Plasma) / LG 50PB690V (Plasma).

I haven't noticed crushed blacks as per some info I read on the web, my experience been exact opposite. The level of how it shows blacks as blacks is jaw dropping IMO (it maybe down to my lack of great screen experience though ).

At present it's snuck away safely from my 6yr old as really don't want him trying his hand at being a modern art impressionist on it! LOL

Re: Forgive me Hexites for I have sinned!

I'm glad you got a decent one.

I have a 144hz 1080p display and the extra refresh rate certainly is a plus (though I was hoping it was an IPS when I bought it, honest, just goes to show you need to do your homework on these things! It's an 8 bit TN).

I used to run up to like 100hz on a CRT Sony G500 and the difference was striking, I think we get roughly the same difference on the TFT flat panels, well worth it for your power or enthusiast users

Re: Forgive me Hexites for I have sinned!

My last monitor was bought i) recommended by bro ii) because it had lots of connectivity iii) price
I didn't do a lot of homework on technical elements and TBH been happy with it for 7yrs (IIRC ).

I do think I should have changed displays sooner! , I can't see myself now not ever having a low Hz monitor again for gaming . I'm also astounded how good the colour reproduction / range is but I'm no expert! Seeing so much detail / clarity in images, due to the better contrast ratio (I think right term!).

I was playing Crysis 3 last night and my jaw dropped again! on how much better it looked compared to previous displays! It could well just be a placebo effect! LOL

Stand is pretty solid, screen does wibble if table knocked but not as bad as some others I saw. Touch sensitive buttons would have been swish but standard buttons function better. OSD is good but some points of it could be better, TBH once setup it's not something I'd regularly tweak. Styling of monitor did concern me at first but has grown on me. The light up EIZO logo got turned off straight away!

Besides the spec of panel main reason for buying it was the heavily discounted price I'd found at an e-tailer who I knew would provide great support if I had an issue.
